Cougar 28sgs

I’m looking at a 2014 keystone cougar 28sgs as my first RV. I’ve looked at several models at shows and dealers over the past few years, and this model seems to have the floor plan and overal things I like best. I’d like any tips regarding this model 5 th wheel... I’m a newbie
  • We have a 2015 Cougar Xlite SGS and love the layout also, only minor repairs so far, the furniture quality is great, rocking lazy boy chairs are really comfortable, love the cheater doors in the bathroom, tows really good even with a 1/2 ton truck. the awning is very high but we wanted electric, the bed is comfortable and we love the dark brown color scheme. The corian kitchen counter is awesome looking.
  • We had a Cougar XLite 28SGS, maybe a 2013? Didn't really have it long enough to have many issues. I did have to get creative with tying down the 2 swivel rockers. They wanted to get hung up on the window coverings when traveling and tear it off. I also got Maxxis tires on it right after we took delivery. Also had wet bolts installed.
I didn't care for bumping my head every time I got in and out of bed.
  • Lemons in the RV industry (unlike the auto industry) are common due to antiquated building methods. The product is rushed through a quick inspection and then out the door.
What one may experience with their trailer doesn't mean you will have the same problem with a similar model. I recently had a 2011 cougar 30ft, (our second Cougar) and had few problems as mentioned above. Our only reason for trading was to get a larger 5th wheel. We ended up buying a Sprinter which is also made by Keystone, because we have had good luck with their products in the past. As with all RV's, consistent inspection by the owner is important to stay on top of any issues that may come about, like caulking and seals, running gear, etc.
  • Don’t do it. Just got rid of out 2015 28sgs last year, all kinds of problems, most of the windows had to be replaced due to leaks, slide issues, awning came of the wall, gas line rubbed on the tires, bunch of other stuff I repaired or fixed myself, final straw was delamination started above the kitchen slide. Nice layout but what a headache trying to keep up with issues. Oh and front cap decals started to peal off a couple months after warranty expired, Keystone told me to go pound sand , “it’s out of warranty”. I could deal with most things but the delamination did it in.

We've had a number of RV's over the years, and for us, the biggest obstacle is the floorplan. IMO, if you find a floorplan you like and the RV is in good repair, go for it. The current floorplan we have sucks, but DW likes it, happy wife, happy life.

    X2

you will notice alot of the floor plans are similar model to model, couple trailers vs bunk models.

you can find small differences that make unique and will work best for you. be patient and take your time.

and yes happy wife makes for happy life
