Dexter Axles -- Common & Reliable?

Think I'm going to trash my Lippert axles and go with Dexters. My shop has been trying for about 10 days now to get parts for the Lipperts. Lippert finally said they stock no replacement parts and I would have to buy new axles, but for over a day now they cannot decide how to charge us for the new axles. Dexter has a nearby local supplier and we can get those quickly, no fuss. Can't figure Lippert out; trying to go out of business?

My question is; any huge problems with Dexter axles? I'll probably make the decision tomorrow morning. Thanks.

I do not have long term experience with Al-Ko...yet. Our 5 er has them and for the past three years the have worked well.

Complete axles are, IMO, surprisingly cheap. Just replace 'em and don't worry about it. Dexter are what I'd replace my...Dexters...with, should I ever need to. 🙂

Dexter frames were bought by Lippert..Dexter axles is still owned by Dexter

I've got all Dexter under my fiver and the only problem I had was a faulty Nev-R-Lube bearing that cost me $2000 to repair and Dexter's lousy customer service that took six days to send the needed parts to where we were stranded in griffin GA. (great little town by the way), I haven't had any issues aside from that but I don't trust those P.O.S. nev-r-lubes any farther than I can throw my dually!

I could be wrong but I believe this is rumor only... I found no information regarding Lippert acquiring Dexter.

When I googled this is what I found:

Dexter is owned by the Sterling Group, a private equity firm based in Houston, TX.

Lippert (LCI) is owned by Drew Industries Incorporated (NYSE: DW)

I found no information regarding Lippert acquiring Dexter.

We have Dexter axles, suspension and brakes on our rig. On delivery we found the bearings over lubed and the brakes ruined. Dexter promptly sent new complete brake assemblies and hubs to our dealer for replacement. I don't know who was responsible for over greasing the bearings but Dexter provide excellent customer service providing the replacement parts.

Parts for the hub and Nev'r lube bearings are not universal.

Not that you'll see Nev'r lubes on newer axles, something that you should be happy about....heh

What parts? Most parts are universal except maybe the tubes them selves. Brakes are off the shelf at any RV dealer. Complete assemblies are around 60 dollars each. Springs? Any spring shop can make replacements in a couple of days for you

I bent one in an accident but it did not break.

We have Dexters and have had no problems that could be blamed on them. We had a problem because a tire shop in Utah improperly assembled a hub. I've dealt with the Dexter people in Georgia and they were helpful and prompt when it comes to finding and shipping parts. I also got parts locally once I figured out that Texas trailers carried Dexter parts.
