Estimate for roof repair

I called my insurance company and they told me to take it to nearby rv repair place and get an estimate of the hail damage done on the roof. Since then, another storm came and now the windows are leaking! So, my hubby called the repair guy here in town and he said he is charging us $350 up front for the estimate! Is that NORMAL? He said we can get it back from insurance, but I'm not so sure. Anyone know about this???
  • Contact your insurance company and see what they have to say. They can negotiate with the repair place or recommend a different one.

The water leaking in from the windows can be from the weep holes.

The weep holes can be clogged up with dirt or debris from the storm.

Or When there is a huge downpour or storm the weep holes simply can not keep up with the increased rain fall and the water backs up in the window track and then into your RV. Been there done that.

Especially if your RV is not level and tipped, even if ever so slightly to one side, the windows on that side will leak water in from the overflowing or clogged weep holes.

I would most definitely make sure that the rain is not just coming in from the weep hole's being overflowed with the rain water or clogged weep holes, BEFORE some guy says you need new windows and/or taking them out to reseal them.
  • Only if the 350 bucks went toward the total cost of replacement.......or if the insurance pays for the estimate that they require.
You need to talk with both about the 350 dollar charge.
  • I wouldn't pay for an estimate. But, it sounds like you're between a rock and a hard place.
Is the price of the estimate deducted from the cost of the job?

Hes probably booked up thats why hes charging, but I wouldnt pay somebody to give me an estimate.

The hubby scheduled it for next week. I told him if I pay for the quote, I'm pretty much locked into having him do it....can't go get more estimates. But then again, we live over the mountains and through the woods....and across closed roads to the next nearest repair shop!

  • Maybe he should submit that bill to the insurance company himself and see how it goes. I would pull my coach from that shop as fast as possible. He is obviously unscrupulous.
