f250 or f350?

After for lurking around for a while, I may have decided to pull the trigger. I am looking to buy a 2016 Dutchmen Denali 307RLS. I can tow with the F250 without being over weight (on the higher side, but not over). I am just trying to get some personal opinions about which truck I should get. The trucks are a 2015 F-250 Platinum 4WD and the 2015 F-350 Lariat 4WD. The other question I have is would the 4wd be worth it because you can not tow a fifth wheel with a lifted truck? The truck would mainly be for towing the fifth wheel and a 22 foot bay boat.

Absolutely love my 2015 F-350 SRW SCrew 4x4. Its got the 3.55 locking axle and the 11500# GVWR package. The 6.7 L Power Stroke has plenty of power, gets decent mileage and the 6-speed trans with tow switch and exhaust brake are a dream on steep inclines. Highly recommend!

Stay away from the 6.4L diesels. They had issues with Fuel pumps and the DPF cracking. I had a 2008 and it was pretty miserable on keeping it serviced and repairs. I am a stickler about servicing. I now have a 2011, and knock on wood, no issues at all with 88k. Just keep the oil changed and the fuel filters changed and check the water in the lower fuel filter monthly and it should last a long time and you have more torque and horsepower over the 6.4. On top of that, the intervals on coolant change in the 2 cooling systems is at over 100k. Transmission fluid change is also way up there compared to the 2008-2010 6.4 models.

Yes, the 6.4 was introduced in 2008. It has 350 HP and 650 ft-lb of torque. 2015 engines are rated at 440 horsepower and 860 lb·ft. So you can there is a very big difference. The best thing that can be said about the 6.4 is that it wasn't as bad as the 6.0 that came before it.

I also agree with going with the F350, and make sure it is a dually, as long as you are going up just as well get the best setup for towing duallies are more stable.

350 4x4. What engine does that 08 have. Its not the 6.4 is it? I have heard of some pretty poor mileage with those. That truck is almost 7 years old. I am not surprised it can be bought for 25k. As another poster mentioned a world of difference in the last 4 years as to payload and many other things. I had a 2008 duramax 2500 hundred. It was a great truck but my 2011 3500 has about twice the payload and way way beefier all around. It handles my 5th wheel a lot better. Also I would not even be able to have the TC I do with 2008 2500. JMHO

Ford market several F350 SRW with 10000 GVWR on up to 11200 GVWR in the same exact truck.
Make sure your getting the F350 SRW 11200/11500 GVWR truck and the 7000 RAWR.

I would recommend the 2015 F350 SRW. I too recommend the 4WD but keep in mind that that feature reduces towing capacity slightly due to the added weight.

Around here where we have mountains and snow it's hard to give away a 2wd truck, let alone sell one.

I agree with those who recommend the the 350 with 4X4. I would always rather have too much truck than not enough truck or a truck right at the limits.

If the 2008 F350 is the 6.4L diesel version I would not recommend it

There is a big difference between 2011+ models and earlier ones. Assuming you plan on getting a diesel the 6.7 engine has been impressive so far, more powerful and much more reliable. The pre 6.7 engines at best were mediocre. Unless you go way back the the 7.2

I was very glad i got the 4WD it opens a whole new world to explore. And occasionally it gets used to pull the fiver out of sticky spots too.
