Forest River Columbus 320RS 5th wheel

My DW and I are looking to purchase the 2013 Columbus 320RS, and wondering if anyone has any comments about them. I understand it's a new model that came out from Forest River in 2012. Both quality, and price point seem to be ok. We like the floorplan and love the bathroom shower.
  • What mechanism does Columbus use for their slides, Rack/Pinion, hydraulic, or cable?
  • Love my 320RS. I've had it a couple weeks now. No real issues. Quality and features up there with the best. Cold weather perfomance seems good.

Definately get the dual pane windows - they are worth the expense. The 6-way leveling is terrific.

Tows just fine with only a 2500 HD Chevy Duramax.

  • So does Forest River own Palomino? The Columbus is a Palomino product.

    Yes, Forest River owns Palomino.

  • What is that brand of television does it come with? It starts with a "H".

My 320RS came with a 42" LED 1080 Samsung with a Panasonic 1000W surround sound, but they are now installing Hisense TV's. They have good reviews online that I have read.
  • You're in luck. I happen to know someone who has had a Columbus 320RS since March of this year...ME.
As you mentioned, the floor plan is great. What we like, though, is its amenities. The 30"X60" shower is the largest we have seen in a fiver. The trailer is 100" wide, and you can feel the extra 4" inside. It has a convection/microwave AND a gas oven. Our sleeper sofa is leather and is queen size. It's got an all aluminum welded frame and gel coating. The ceiling & floor have an R30+ insulation factor with built in tank heating pads. Frameless windows look great. We ordered ours with a King bed and hitch pin upgrade.
I have visited the plant and was impressed with their assmebly line and production procedures. The have corrected the earlier assembly bugs and the units coming off the line now are up to the high standards necessary for this higher line fiver. The people I met at the factory were very responsive and helpful.
It is a beautiful rig and we get compliments at every CG we've stayed. We really like it, alot.
PM if you want more information.
  • We looked at several models of the Columbus yesterday and liked all of them. The 295RL would fit us better also due to the length. What is that brand of television does it come with? It starts with a "H".
  • That's the only fiver we've found that we like the layout better than our Montana. It looks like whoever designed it must camp.
  • Don't own one but after my wife and I recently went to the RV show in Portland Oregon the Columbus 295RL is on our short list. The 320RS would be our fav, but it's too long for our parking area at home and pushing my weight limits a bit. We spent 3-4 hrs looking at lots of RV's and went back several times to the Columbus. Love the look as well as the ameneties. The 60x30 walkin shower is a big selling point. Wish I owned one so I could give you an owners report.
