Wait a minute! If the known weight of the FW is 10,000lbs and the known pin weight is 2,000lbs, isn't each axle at 4,000lbs, give or take a few pounds? Am I missing something here?
No, and I don't think the laws of physics have changed either. :-)
On our 2006 Montana 3400RL which had nearly a 14000 lb GVWR they only put two 6,000 lb axles on it. So that assumed that there had to be at least 2,000 lbs on the pin when the 5th wheel was fully loaded. Montan installed 3500 lb rated ST tires on the unit and two sets failed with each set having less than 10,000 miles on them. I don't know if the 6,000 lb axles had anything to do with the ST tire failures. However, as soon as we put LT tires on the unit the tire problem went away.
