6500 watt Onan LP. Does what I want when I want it. I bought for the convenience. I have auto gen start so if the park electric goes out when we are away my three dogs won't roast in the rig. in hot weather. If I want a hot meal on the road I just stop fire up the genie and turn on the micro. If I need air 24/7 I go for hook ups.

Same here but thanks to another person I have a 240V Cummins/Onan 6500 that will run my 240V dryer.

Sad they offer the 240V dryer and the 6500 gen but they won't work together. After I did the legwork with Cummins I am sure MS will be offering the Commercial 240V Gen as an option. They would not allow Cummins to do mine so the dealer had to do it. Was NOT very happy about that!

JMHO after having TT and 5ver and now a MH. If I were to go back to either a TT or 5ver I would have a diesel PU and mount a diesel generator on the PU bed and have a remote start within the RV. I know, limited space in the PU bed with 5ver hitch but with a 5ver I'd probably go with a custom large bed on a F450. Like I said, JMHO.

Have also had (some) of all three - MH, TT, 5th.

The diesel gen in your MH is very well engineered for silence.
Not practical - and "Mission Impossible" for a pickup.

The F450:
*If* I needed (lots of pin weight) or wanted a dually - *NO* MDT's - it would be a singled HDT.
Diesel (OEM) APUs are available (expensive) - but most of those folks still use a gas gen like a 3K Honda.

OP - spend some (a lot?) of time on the *Tech Issues* forum.
*Everything generator* is usually there.

YMMV

Onan is the most common.

Yes, there are a few 5 wheels that can be had with a generator or that are prep for one, most I think are on the high end.

Now if you are looking at 5 wheel toy haulers most will have one or be prep for one.

+1

The onboard Onan 4K is convenient but NOISY. Since recently adding an inverter and my rig already having 160W solar I rarely have to run the noise maker any more. Only for AC or Microwave which we rarely use do I need to have it on.

IMO, the 2 biggest downsides to the Onan on-board generators is that they are straight generators and either run at idle with no load, or full speed with even the lightest load on them. Couple with LP fuel, and you can go through a =lot= of fuel in a short time. Not worth it, to me. I'd much rather have an inverter generator, that produces 110v as long as it's running, and tailor its speed for the load demand. MUCH more efficient, whether gas, LP or diesel (yes, there are a couple out there). With my current FW, I seriously contemplated putting a heavy cargo rack on the back end and adding a 3000 watt inverter generator in a box back there. Remote start and will run a long time on a fill up.

had Onan in the past and liked it and it was with remote. Now due to other things, Honda with the remote start. it is great. On cold nights or mornings, I don't go outside to start, but have the option if something happens. about $2000 with remote, weighs in at less than 150 pounds full of gas. Have run it all night in Nevada for a/c, only used 2/3 tank about 2 1/2 gallons. I enjoy it. Look on the internet, speedwaysales.com they sell direct and cost is great. mount it on the back of the trailer. Good Luck & B e Safe ! ! !

Onan LP 5500 don't use it that much but when we do it's great to have and EASY one button push start inside the trailer and when we trade, we will move it to the new trailer.

For what use?

If I need air 24/7 I am looking for hookups. For everything else there is solar/battery/inverter.

Bolted a Honda 3000 with remote start in the truck bed. I ran a new 10 gauge cable from my transfer switch that will reach the genny even if my truck is parked hood to my pin box. My ac is only 13,500 though. I have driven with it running and it's so easy dw can fire it up. Just push this blue button and push the red on when your hair is dry.
