50-70% mark up is not anywhere near true.
Every dealer sets there MSRP, and some are higher than others, but most run 40-45% over raw cost.
Of course, they are going to make money, or they wouldn't be in the business of selling RV's.
Would you go to work every day if you didn't make a salary??
Or only make money every 3rd day? (for those that insist that they can make money off someone else)
I think your right. I do get to see dealer paperwork on a daily basis(nature of my job) and its usually 48-50% markup. Just seen one yesterday that was 48%. There is usually a MSRP sheet from the factory but I think some dealers inflate that even more so I think that is where he gets 50-70%
I believe that you can use this to your advantage.. just tell them what you said above... tell them no BS... just make the deal.. money talks.. IF they believe that you will buy it at the price you give them at that point... you have their attention..

My experience with 2 different 5th wheel purchases:
1) 30% off easy to get.
2) A little negotiating and you can get 35%
3) 40% is doable but takes time (usually).
Last one was purchased for 42% off MSRP.

They will let you know if you lowballed them. I got my 330 RBK for a few bucks more than that but I got a hitch and mine was out the door with taxes, plates, etc. Mine is a 2014 also...I just corrected the date in my signature.

When you can easily get 30-35% "discount" from "MSRP", it shows you what the real-world "value" is of these things. The manufacturers can set an MSRP, but the stealers have the final say in what it really is, then discount from there. I imagine that actual dealer "cost" is probably right at 50% of factory MSRP, so they're still making a decent double-figure margin even at 35% off.

Hey everyone! Long story short. I sold my TT back last September and I am now looking to get into a 5er. My wife and I have decided on a floor plan and have been shopping around for the best deal. So far, I have two deals on the table at different dealerships. One of the deals is where I bought my TT back in 2012.
1st deal is a 2014 keystone sprinter st324fwbhs. MSRP 44,836.00 Final price 33,996.00.
2nd deal is a 2014 keystone cougar 330rbk. MSRP 50,073.00 Final price 33,767. This is where I bought my TT.
I offered 31,000.00 Final price on the first deal and 30,644.68 Final price on the second deal
Did I low ball them? They seemed not to care for the prices I offered but I thought they where more than reasonable offers.
What do you guys and gals think?
I'm in no hurry to buy. I have a trip planned in October to Topsail Hill in Florida so I have some time.
Thanks everyone
Yes and No, this is how you get to a price you can live with. You can always walk away.
I love the sales persons line when you are down to almost there on the price, and they say, "Are you going to let $$$$ keep you from buying this rig? My DW responded right back, Are YOU going to keep $$$$ from you making this SALE!
We won that round!
