Gooseneck to 5th wheel adapter

This has been discussed frequently. And stated often that some manufacturers will void the trailer warranty if you use a gooseneck adapter. So if your trailer is still under warranty that would be the first concern. Ask the manufacturer about it.

With that being said, there are many who do use the gooseneck adapters with no apparent problem. But there is no doubt that the adapter does put different and additional stress on the front part of the frame.

I believe the Goosebox Adapter is actually approved by Lippert for that purpose as it has shock absorbers and an air bag. But again, checking with the manufacturer would be a good idea.

If I had a Lippert frame that the Reese Goosebox works on, I would use that, as it is approved by Lippert. If I didn't, I would use the Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel Adapter.

That is a better choice than a king pin adapter! Better yet is the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch! Chris

I use the Andersen hitch. I chose it over the B&W because it only weighs 70lbs and is easy to remove. It works great and (after a small learning curve) hookup is easy.

Ignore the responses above about the kingpin adapters and gooseboxs, they must not have read your post. To those that didn't read the OP's question, what he posted was a product that uses the underbed gooseneck hitch to mount a fifth wheel hitch into the truck. He asked nothing about converting the pin box or adding an adapter to the pin.

I do not have one but have recently been looking at these same type of hitches. Unfortunately my truck has the Remov-A-Ball hitch which they do not recommend for the type of fifth wheel hitch your asking about. You might to make sure of the brand of hitch and that they recommend a fifth wheel adapter. I will probably just install a separate rail/hitch system in my scenario.

You are correct...

The bulldog adaptor is Cequents response to The B&W Companion. This hitch uses a single jaw type closure and appears to be very sturdy.

The OP has Cequents Underbed gooseneck hitch. His options to use this gooseneck are either the Bulldog fifth wheel gooseneck adaptor or use an Andersen Ultimate. To use a B&W companion the Op would have to install a B&W Turnover Ball underbed gooseneck hitch then he can use the Companion.

I do not know of any specially made shank that will work with the Cequent gooseneck hitch and the companion by B&W...

OP. I searched extensively and have found very few reviews on the Bulldog...but the design seems sound. I really like the single jaw design and I think it would serve you well.

The Andersen is a good hitch as well. Just be aware, Chains may be required in your jurisdiction if you go with the Andersen. (Not a big deal IMHO)

The option to install a seperate set of above bed rails is still there depending on the OP's preference.

B&W has a extra pin that fits the "bulldog" brand and there is a company called RLYoung that makes an adapter also.
The Andersen Ultimate is also a good choice as it attaches to any goose neck ball.I have a Curt and need/want a new hitch and looking hard at the Andersen.

Thanks all for the answers and concerns. I have decided to go with the bulldog adapter because it seems capable of doing the job and sits in the truck and not on the trailer. I did look at the B&W as well but price wise the bulldog seems fit for the towing capacity of the truck I have which is a meager 12300lbs max weight. I may have been a little vague as to the type of adapter so sorry. Just did not make it clear. Thanks again and just sold the class A so time to start looking! :)
