Greasing FW landing gear

I have a 2012 Yellowstone Canyon Trail, that I purchased new two years ago.

I noticed this year, that the landing gear seems to make a little more noise when extending/retracting. I'm thinking it's time to lube the gears.

I noticed the top leg caps, were kind of hard to get to, but to my surprise, Lippert has installed a grease zerk on each upper leg, just a little below the caps.

There is no mention of this in my owners manual, so my question is, how much, and what kind of grease are others pumping into the legs?

  • YEP.....and you can pop the cover off top of leg assembly and drop a glop of grease down onto bevel gear as the zerk fitting is below that for the screw drive.

Just a couple of pumps from grease gun with any all purpose grease.....it doesn't take much. Once a year.

I also with 5vr hooked up to truck and legs fully retracted, drop inner leg down then spray them down with a dry graphite spray. Retract the inner leg and run driven tube down fully then spray it down with the graphite spray

Thanks for the reply OB. I figured to do a couple pumps, after talking to Lippert.

  • Sorry, can't post a picture, but the zerks are about 4"s below the top leg cap.

Update: I was not getting any post answers, so just got off the phone with Lippert.

The CS rep did not know, but was running back & forth talking to a third party. This person said to just put in the smallest amount of moly grease to quiet the system.

I asked, what am I actually greasing? Third person required again, said a gear and a screw drive. I asked if someone should run the landing gear, while I pumped a couple strokes of grease. They said not necessary.

Hope this info helps a few others, with similar system.

  • Could you post a picture? I'm curious as others might be as to where they installed that zerk.
