Unfortunately it's obviously the ladder, not the camper. My 2010 Cougar had the same problem. I got enough black tabs to replace all of them a few times. Found a website that sells them in bulk. Hehe.

Two full years full time in our Big Horn. We toured four different factories before buying and did so based on build quality. This is a great unit and made the right choice.

I should note however, the rear ladders on these units are very flimsy and not attached well. Many posts/problems noted on the Heartland forums for last three years with no fix to this safety issue in sight. Heartland is now deleting posts about this problem, so be cautious !

Our 2013 Landmark does have heat underneath in the Storage Compartment.

WOW..is that ever the "pot calling the kettle black"...fact is, not bashing MS now and never have...actually almost bought one. What I have said is I could not justify the large difference in price and now after yesterday's experience, I'm glad I did not spend the extra money...

Yes you are correct!

If the doors were closed as she said I really doubt they were using their furnace and probably were using electric heat with the furnace playing backup. With the furnace running it does pump heat into the basement.

Their furnance was running the entire time...we could actually feel it when we were in thereusing the electric heater thawing the pipes. We are still scratching our heads trying to figure out why it froze, but it did.

I recently traded up for a Heartland BC but have not taken delivery yet, will in a few days.
My reason for answering OP is although I have no real history yet in a Heartland I had this mindset that I would only own a "premium brand coach". Which I considered to be Newmar, Carriage, Nuwa and a few others (most out of business now) and the custom built coaches.
I traded in a Carriage on my BC.
My point is I was looking at the market very narrowly but what I discovered is with all of the new technology of today there are some fine FW coaches on the market that I was overlooking because I thought my list of "premium coaches" was the Holy Scripture.
The Heartland BC is well built, Mfg. warrants for full time living, with many cutting edge technical features , it just blew me away.
I had admired Heartland coaches for many years but when Thor bought them, well that kind of rained on my regard for them. However, it is my recent understanding that Thor has left Heartland as a separate entity unto itself and it basically functions as it did from the beginning.
This is my sixth RV purchase over the last 25 years or so, two of them new the others were used units.
I have lots of experience RVing and I do my homework (a whole lot of my knowledge gained on these boards). I feel very comfortable with this latest purchase (it is a new unit). I will let you know in a few months how I feel about it then. Good luck and happy and safe camping!
Drinking out of my saucer!

Mine isn't exactly the model being discussed, but it is a 2011 Heartland. Just happens to be from the Cyclone toyhauler line.

Opinion? Most of the components used are pretty much the same as most other campers, Lippert, dometic, etc etc. and offer no real surprises either good or bad.

Construction? Well the hard parts seem to be ok, such as the structure itself, frame (though seems a bit on the light duty side), interior, etc.

Where it really falls down is when you lift the skin (beauty only goes that deep right?) and look under. Utility installation is pathetic. Plumbing, electrical, ductwork etc looks as if it were done by the lowest bidder from some 3rd world nation where standards are non-existent, and it had to be done yesterday.

Yes, it is that bad. The transfer switch (big metal box with relays in it) was held down with 1 screw, and faith in place of the other 3 screws.

There have been a slew of minor problems that were not all that big a deal to handle, and customer service/warranty issues were fairly painless, but bottom line is for the amount of money being paid out, a bit of pride of workmanship is not an unreasonable expectation.

In their defense I hear this to be pretty much prevalent throughout the low-mid level rv market, and based on what I saw during production at the Jayco plant I believe it.

Yes I did tour Heartland as well, during a plant shutdown actually, which to me was actually a better deal because I got to walk right up to units in all stages of construction and stick my nose in things. Again, expediency of installation seemed to trump all with neatness, cleanliness, and detail of installation taking the absolute back seat to "getting it done".

Would I buy another Heartland? Possibly, but I don't intend to next time around, which has more to do with lack of a floor plan that trips my trigger than anything else. Next purchase looks to be an XLR which the DW and I both like and agree on top to bottom.

A rare occurrence to be sure.

There is a difference between relaying a factual experience and someone who states things they believe, but are actually not factual, i.e, "heartland uses particle board"...not true...they use OSB in their flooring...and there IS a big difference.

I have no problem with someone stating why they chose something else, but they at least need to make sure their "facts" are correct.
