Help and Advice on a badly placed 5th wheel

So I have a 35 ft 5th Wheel, that was put into a spot (barley) with a fence right on front of it. We had to improvise to get it unhooked but managed. Problem is now, the space between the fence and the hitch is not enough for any RV movers to even attempt to move this since they can't get their truck in there easily and we don't have any other option. Is there any way to pull this thing backwards 10 feet or so to make space for a truck to hook up? I was thinking come-a-longs to the back axle but I'm not sure of balance issues. If I bring the Jack's all the way up will the 5th wheel just fall forward if not hooked up to anything?

Small forklift rental in my area is under $250 for a full day. A small Kubota is likely even cheaper.

I would bet money that attempting to slide the jacks, regardless of greased boards or other, will bend the jacks.
Ditto on
1. temporarily taking down the fence
2. forklift or skid steer
3. professional wrecker/tow truck

good luck!

Have the "local guy" that put it there, get it out.
A wrecker of skid steer is your best bet. Any jury rigged system with greased boards, pulling on the axles etc have a good chance of damaging the fifth wheel.

I would love to see a picture of the situation. You can get hooked up to a 5th wheel from 90 degrees. Unless there is a fence or other obstacle next to the trailer there is no reason you can not get under it and move it.
Are there any local trucking companies nearby? One of their Jockey wagons and a skilled user would be able to do it.

Just call a wrecker. They can hook up at a 90 degree angle with their boom and sling and just tow it out.

While the greased boards and machine skate are cheap solutions the jacks would need to be up to reduce possible bending. And these methods should be used with a lot of caution so that the 5er does not slide uncontrolled in any direction.

Get a tractor with a front bucket or rear lift pole, chain it up to the pinbox, and your done.

If a tractor or forklift rental is is more than you'll pay then why not just take it apart piece by piece and move it ? :S
Did the neighbor build the fence so they didn't have to look at an old junky trailer with **** all around it ?

So the fence isn't yours. As others have said, why not just ask the owner of it if you can take it down, do what you need to do, and put it back up? Tell owner you'll have a professional company do the fence work. That is unless for course you don't get along w/ the owner and he's being a P pot.If you do end up pulling it backwards, am assuming you have plenty of room to do this? Will take a decent size tractor (at least 60 HP IMO). How are you going to get the legs onto greased boards with them already on the ground?

I guess a better question is, how and why did the 5er get parked where it is in the 1st place knowing it would be a beeatch?

If you pulled the trailer backwards and then connected the truck what will you do next? If you are pulling out in the forward direction you will just end up where you started so why not start there to begin with? Or, once the truck is connected, are you going to back out somewhere?

Providing the ground is suitable, if you can support the king pin, rent a couple of machine skates (maybe $30 for 4 hours) and put them under the front jacks on top of plywood. You support the king pin, raise the jacks, place the skates, lower the jack stands on the skates, raise the jack stands and remove the king pin support. You will have to decide if trying something that cost money without much danger is worth it over trying something that if it fails, will cost you a whole lot more money.

Can't take fence down it's not ours. Was a local guy who did it first time cheap. Got his truck stuck in the sand in process. Pro movers will not do it even for a fee, the space is to small for them to bother trying to hook up at an angle. Straight backup to hook up isn't possible. Forklift would cost too much to for such a fast job. Slicked boards sounds like a possible option
