hello

I have a 06 cardinal 33le with alco #6000 pound axles(6 lug hubs) with a gvwr of 13990.

Done had about 10 tires failures since new!!!
I've had enough...lol
Tag says it should have lt235/85r16/e, but when I bought it it had st235/80r/e and never noticed what it had on tag till now!!!!

Do I need to upgrade the drum hubs to 8 lug and 17.5 rims with Goodyear G114 21575R17.5???

Or just stay with the 16in rims and go with the goodyear lt235/85/r16 g614 rst??? (current 16 in rims are only rated for 80 psi)

Im gonna try and go weigh the rig this week to give me a better idea of where I stand as far as the weight goes, but im almost sure that its an overweight problem causing my failures!!

We really love the rv and don't want to get rid of it!!!!
That's the only reason its not sitting at a dealer lot right now..lol

any input would help

thanks in advance,
Dustin

I have an 05 Cardinal with same axles and weight. Never had a tire problem.

I have been pulling this trailer since it was new. I have traveled across the US a couple of times and have a 4000 mile trip planned this summer.

I have used Kelly and currently have Firestone Transforce tires. I check the air pressure regularly.

BTW, I have michelin tires on my dually. It is a good tire but not the only tire worth purchasing. I am not a guy that thinks only one product is good, and all other products and opinions are worthless.

Thanks everyone for the info!!!!!!!

then if they are E-load with maximum load of 3020 lbs , they cant bare with the 4 of them the GAWR probably. Searched it back with Google and only found E-load.
In Europe its law that that it has to be, so this would not be allowed, but probably in America laws are different so this is allowed.

I already wrote this strange situation in the long post with the picture, that was not apreciated here.

Still think you are a bit better of with these tires to laws of nature.
Probably in ST tires they put less stuff to protect it against UV light.

But you Americans always set me right about keeping to the laws and regulations, and if the law about that the tires must have loadcapacity total the same or higher as GAWR also goes for America, wich I would think logical, these tires are not allowed to law.

Why not, the trailer came OEM with LT235/85R16E's rated to 3042 each on 6K axles? Placard list LT235/85R16E's. I think you and "US" loose something in your translations. Chris

I had a 2004 Crossroads Paradise Point I was having tire problems with. Turned out the ALKO axles were 'bent'. A factory defect which was replaced under their 'informal' recall.

There was a listing of affected axle serial numbers as I recall. Anyway when I had the axles replaced, switched to LT tires and slowed down to 62 mph(hey I was a FNG and was driving way too fast) everything was fine.

I alway's read too much into something, or read between lines that aren't there:).

Same with mine Rick...the spare on my 5er is the original GY G614, made in 06'...I've dropped it down, inspected about twice a year and make sure it's aired to 110 psi. It has been on the pavement once...When I lost the tread off of one of my tires a couple years ago, drove to a Wingfoot about 10 miles down the road with spare, then it was mounted back into spare location when 4 new tires put on...

Rick, you're reading too much into what we were reading too much into:B

You guys are reading tooooooo much into this. I'm trying to say he most likely will never need the spare. Heck both my RV and TV spares have never seen the pavement. Still pull em down once a year for cleaning and inspection, the RV ST needs about 10 PSI each year, TV is usually within range but really dirty :B
Usually a spare means " till you get to the next town" to me. Heck the DW car has the little doughnut style spare. Not sure it's worth more than 50 miles or so. Again it's never seen the pavement either.
Spare tires are about as over rated as a Ferd :B Your money :W
