I recently purchased a 2007 39' KZ Sportsman Sposter Toy Hauler. There are a couple of things that I can not quite figure out.
1st When towing, will my truck provide power and or charging to my trailer? I use the fridge on gas which takes battery juice.
2nd Does anyone know what type of charging system this has??? I can't find it.
It came with two 6VDC batteries in parallel which I am currently reconditioning, I placed a large 12VDC in place of it and the lights work a lot better even when plugged in.
Also... If anyone has advise for a good interior lighting bulbs, I'll take it. It currently has the old type which puts out a nice soft light and some LED ones which put out a bright white light that make me feel as I'm in an ER.
Thank you for the help!
Hi Wilbur,
I don't know if trucks still ship this way, but when I bought mine in 2004 there was no fuse in the "Trailer Charge" position. My batteries would charge after I added that fuse. The charge isn't fantastic though. There is no substitute for plugging into shore power or running your generator.
About your batteries. Your two 6v batteries probably aren't connected in parallel, because then you would just have one long-lasting six volt bank that wouldn't power your 12v system. If they are connected pos/pos and neg/neg, then they are parallel. If they are connected pos/neg then they are serial and you have a 12v bank.
As for your charger, I contacted my manufacturer and gave them my VIN and they gave me the details about my converter/charger.
Good luck!
What kind of toys do you carry in your hauler?
