Due to so many repeat posts about RV common sense stuff....But... I my wife and I are making the switch from our 2004 Keystone Sprinter 24RLS travel trailer to a 2015 Cougar 280RLSWE 5er in a couple of weeks.We think it's time to make the move. Our beloved Sprinter is getting on in years. Needs new awning fabric, could use a new shower curtain, the propane tanks are getting close to requiring being re certified or replaced. We just put new tires on her.... And next weekend we will be taking her on her last outing with us. Packing boxes to move into our new one.I have never had or used a 5er before and I am looking forward to the experience but I am somewhat apprehensive in my knowledge of the operation of hitch itself. I have been using the Reese Straightline on my travel trailer since day one and I know that system inside out. Part of the purchase agreement on the 5er included the Pullrite 18000 lb auto slider. Any input on this hitch?

What I like about my 18,000 is it has no greasy bars and I never hit my shins on it. :) I have been in tight spots and wheel it out of there pretty quick with no worries.

Congrats on the new home on wheels. We were TT folk for about she says 16 years, I think closer to 18. But who cares. We jsut changed to a fifth wheel also. We have a Reese manual slider hitch in an extended cab, with short bed. I only need to use it when backing into tight spaces as our Grand Design has the front cap rounded which makes it simpler. Take your time and get used to the different type of towing. For me was a pretty simple and seem less transition as the fifth wheel, like all said during my inquiries, is easier to tow. Be careful backing, your co-pilot like mine is probably awesome. Turns are different as well due to tracking as the pivot point is in the bed and not at the bumper. Anyhow, i could go on and on but you will get used to it quickly. take your time, check double check and then check again. Ask around, get some opinions, suggestions etc. Then do it your way with all the knowledge you gain. Maybe meet up some day, cuss and discuss all the changes and swap some lies. They asked when we want to pick it up and go over our PDI and we are are committed on a camping trip next weekend so we are going to have to wait until Sept 12 for PDI, 5er hitch install and such.

So.... Next weekend we will be spending our LAST trip with this rig we have loved for 12 years.

Monday morning we will be boxing up all of our treasures from the Sprinter, packing them away in our shed at home and anxiously our PDI/transfer the following weekend.

AND our first weekend away in it will be for our oldest sons wedding!

Why are you asking questions it is "ALL COMMON SENSE"
You will be fine.
It will come to you instinctively no need to ask questions about things you do not know about, besides it just aggravates some people and they do not come around any more.

Ask all the questions you want! The Pull Rite hitch in my opinion is one of the best... Although mine is not a slider, I have heard nothing except "positive" from those that have them. In my opinion a 5th Wheel pulls better, however in backing, it is a tad bit slower in response. It's been 15 years since I made the switch and I have had no regrets! Congratulations on your new trailer and enjoy!

I use to have a super slider when I had a short box TV. I loved it as it would automatically slide back and forth when backing and driving forward. I used slip plate on mine but I understand now you use WD40 on the new ones. Great hitch for worry free tight turns.

We have the superglide and it's worked well. After a couple of times you'll see it is easy peasy. My 76 yr old husband with two bad shoulders can hitch up smooth as silk. We use a check list before hand, and he marked a spot with bright tape on truck cover and 2 prices marking the hitch, I lower the rig to the righ spot and it slips right in. We can make some very tight turns too. We had never pulled anything nor even owned a truck! We have a relatively light fiver and a 350 truck, have to see the trailer to know its there.
Relax and enjoy, you will love it.
