Is This Normal ?

I got on the top of my 5er yesterday to do some sealing and just check things out and took a good look at the area around my AC unit and noticed that the roof at the front of my AC unit is lifted and has some bubbles in it.

Is this normal being it is older ? There are no leaks or anything like that but if it might turn into something worse that I can get ahead of now I will do that as well.

Here are some pics

  • I had s similar situation and my roof decking was rotted on a 1 yr old Voltage. Get it fixed ASAP!
  • I agree with others, you and a friend, need to lift the AC out to inspect for water damage. It is not that hard to remove, and then you should be able to lift cut out flap of roof material, to see what is going on.

After inspection, possible repair, you should be able to glue roof material back down, install new gasket, and set the AC back in.

Just tighten bolts snug, with new gasket, when reinstalling AC.

    Good luck,
    Jerry
  • 14" X 14" hole is cut in roof for A/C unit installation

Roof material looks like it was not laid down/sealed properly around opening and water has gotten under roof material.

You don't know that you don't have a leak cause A/C gasket is sealing opening BUT you do have water intrusion under that roof material.
Wood under/around that area is most likely damaged.

Only removal of A/C Unit and inspection will reveal extent of issues.
  • I would be suspect of some water intrusion. Best to remove the A/C unit and check the roof in that area and then reinstall the A/C with a new gasket.

  • My roof around the AC does not look like that and I would remove a few things to really see what's going on.
