When you jack up your 5th wheel do you:
- place the jack under the axle between the hanger u-bolts
- jack up the frame
- use a ramp to drive the good tire onto
- other...please explain

Asking for trouble if you put the jack under the curved U bolt.

Put it under the lowest spring leaf next to the axle. A flat surface not prone to slipping.

Good to see a few more confessions ๐Ÿ™‚ It goes without saying , I wouldn't be getting under that fifth wheel without safety stands . But its great for tire changing or wheel bearing or brake service. No I don't pump grease into my bearings ,EVER :B

Add me to the list. I carry a bottle jack, but I always use the 4 point leveling. We camp in some places that lift the tires, so I don't see any difference.

I know I'll catch **** for it, but if it came down to it, I'd use my 4-point leveling system to jack the whole rig up. Each jack is capable of lifting nearly the whole GVW of my KZ, so 2 should work well, let alone all 4. Just leveling my rig out in the street in front of my house leaves the curb-side tires off the ground about 2".

Glad you mentioned it ,was going to pm the OP to use level up . I have replaced the tires, doing that ,and taking them to the tire shop. Also did my bearings ,and new brake shoes that way recently . I can catch he!! with you . ๐Ÿ™‚

But, but, but... That will overstress the one tire by putting too much load on it, same as driving over a curb at low speed!

I know, I should be ashamed posting such a thing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yeah, 6,000 lbs on a tire rated for less than 4,000. And 6,000 lbs this side plus 3,000 lbs on the opposite side on an axle rated for 6-7,000 lbs. No worry. :B

For just changing a flat tire on my rv trailers and other non rv trailers I use my old 12T Truckers Special shorty hyd jack under the axle next to the you bolt. The jack came with a axle tube cradle adapter. Just a few strokes and the tire is off the ground enough to remove the flat and install the spare. Its jacked fully loaded and empty trailers with 1750 lb axles up to 12k axles.
The jack is old and is on its 3rd repack since the '70s era.

Now if your asking about jacking the trailer with all the wheels off the ground then I use a couple of floor jacks and lots of cribbing under the trailer frame rails front to back.

Any of the 3 work fine. For me, just depends where I'm at, how quick it needs to done, how sturdy do I want it. If you really want to lift your FW, then lifting by using frame likely best choice.

Pulling up on my trailer-aid plus, is quickest to change a tire.

Between the U bolts. Raise the wheel just barely off the ground.
