Jayco or Heartland

I don't want a debate - my son is going full time and is stuck between two fifth wheels, one made by Jayco the other by Heartland and he asked me if I knew of a web site that he can use to compare. I thought I could find one but I cannot find one that compares resale value or customer complaints? Is there such an animal?

Bighorn is FAR from high end. Same cheap material and construction as most other trailers in the mid price range...I own a Heartland product. It's been okay but just okay. I think structurally they have gotten better than mine but now they are throwing in all kinds of doo-dads and gadgets to make them more flashy, and more unreliable. There are much better choices to be had. My personal choice in the same price range is the Cedar creek. Look like a good solid rig, not overly flashy, decent frame and construction and highly rated factory customer service...JMHO

Interesting you would say that. Ours is quality all the way, with no problems with it, but one screw that had to be repositioned. Well built and very comfortable. This one is a keeper for us, it's that good. Prior to this we had a Komfort, full time version, and three previous Kit Companions.

Personally I would buy a higher end used one than either. My HH is considered entry level higher end, they cut out some fru-fru but has the same quality build as the fancier ones. Believe me when you start looking how they are built by looking into the basement and see how wiring and plumbing is run you will see the difference. My Bighorns wiring looked like a spaghetti factory. My buddies Jayco was even worse. However, I have to say my decals suck pretty bad.

One point to consider, is the Jayco rated for full time use? Certain models of Heartland are. We have a 2011 3055RL Bighorn and it is rated for full time use. It's a high quality unit with many amenities. It still looks new and is in top condition. We never tire of it and the luxury it affords us.

comparing quality, durability, etc. of different RV's is very difficult I think but 2 companies I have had experience with and feel are as good as any and better than some are Winnebago and Jayco.

Had a 2003 Jayco Designer, spent over 1,000 nights in it , traded for 2014 Jayco Eagle Premier. Very few problems with either. Nothing but minor stuff. Full timing now for 4 years no problems from either trailer.
Would recommend Jayco!

I have had a Jayco Designer and now a Heartland Landmark. Both have been good campers and would recommend both.

Here's a site that offers brand satisfaction data from owners:

http://www.rv-coach.com/rv/rating/rate_your_rv_results.html

I've never owned either but from hanging around RV message boards, campgrounds and RV shows I get a better feeling about Jayco.

We've owned 2 Jayco Designer 5th wheels. I'd highly recommend them, both for the quality of their RVs at their price points and for their excellent customer service.

I have a 2012 Big Horn by Heartland. Great trailer. As with all trailers there are few minor issues but was very impressed with Heartlands warranty. I could call Heartland directly and they would have me take the trailer in to a shop or when I was Ariz. they let me use a Mobil RV Repair that I had been using for years. Heartland never questioned or nit picked my warranty issues.
