Joining the 5th wheel world...

We have a 1996 Carriage Conestoga 3708 that we bought new and have been fulltiming in ever since. A great product and it had held up very, very well. We did have the exterior stripped down and painted complete with painted graphics in 2010 and we did some "freshen up" things on the inside.

I think you are going to be very happy with your Cameo. We had a 2005 Cameo F30 RLS that we just sold prior to our purchase of a GD Reflection 337. We really liked our Cameo, and are hoping that our Reflection is close to being the 5vr that the Carriage was. In the 9 years we owned it, we did not have ANY problems with the Cameo. They are very well built campers. You made a good choice. I really wish Carriage would not have gone out of business...

Check to see if the trailer has the heavier shackles and wet bolt kit (greasable shackle bolts). If not, check with Mor/ryde or Dexter (depends on which axles) about a wet bolt kit.

We had a 2008 and a 2012 Cameo and both were above average build quality for 5th wheels. I do not feel that the 2012 was built as well as the 2008 model. I feel that last couple of years, the QC had dropped off.

Ok, I had to go look...there is 3 inches or so clearance between the axle and the frame. The springs are under the axle, and each one has a shock. Everything looks ok as far as I can tell. Thanks for the advice!
Just to clarify a little bit, I new carraige has a good reputation and all that, but I really hadn't looked seriously into buying one because all the ones I liked were out of my price range. Found this one and the floor plan was what I was looking for and the price was right so it's in my drive now! It wasn't a totally blind decision at all. It will be at least a part time home, and the separate living area was what was nice about it. And that is more than I've typed in 2 years so it's back to "work" on the new camper. Thanks again everyone.

A bit late for looking for opinions on the Carriage don't you think? Lucky for you Carriage has a good reputation for being a quality rig.

One thing I would check are the springs. Friends similar rig had the axles beating into the bottom of the frame. Not pretty. New proper sized springs now and all is well.
