Kayaks and RV'ing

I love traveling and love to get out on lakes and enjoy the piece and quiet. Problem for me is that, well, I don't own a kayak "yet" and haven't figured out how to carry them on my 5th wheel. That was until my friend showed me this site for a foldable kayak that weighs 26 pounds. Thought I would share!

HI BAZINGA, thanks for the info. We just put Tully racks on our
GMC 2500 6 1/2 ft bed, how far past the back of the cab can you go.
Were also towing a fifth wheel. It looks to me that the most would be about 6 inches

I tried the two roof top racks for 10 foot kayaks, but felt the set up left too much overhang in the front for 5R application. I felt the wind at 60 mph or faster put too much pressure on the front rack to be safe.

There are some shorter kayaks out there that should work with this set up though.

I also see those that pull trailers who can center their canoes and kayaks on the top of the cab that make it work.

Not saying you can't make it work, just be safe.

Bought a Nucanoe 10 foot last year. Wanted the 12 foot, but after doing some measuring decided I could fit the 10 on the truck top with plenty of room to turn the 5er. I have a GMC 2500 with 6 1/2 foot bed.

I only did one short camping trip to a close by lake last fall but I had plenty of room for tight turns backing into and pulling out of the campsite. One maybe unexpected plus. I may have gotten a little better fuel mileage. The kayak flipped upside down on roof seemed to break the wind hitting the front of the 5er a little and that may have helped some. I am taking a longer trip next month where I will do a real world test of the mileage. Be nice if it really did help a little.

Ok, they are a little pricey but you can go with Yakups. Then you could carry kayaks and bikes in the back.

You can get a rack for the roof of the truck. A regular kayak will paddle much better. When we went from a popup to a TT we thought about a 5er, but being able to carry 4 kayaks, and 4 bikes, we felt we needed the truck bed.

We have a SeaEagle two-person inflatable kayak and are very happy with it.
