Landing gear replacement

Just a f.y.i. I had a landing gear fail 2weeks ago. It was starting to seize up. The internal threads failing on the main jack screw. I bought a replacement at E- trailer .com it was a stromberg-Carlson replacement for my Lippert one. It went fairly easy except the 2 locking tabs that keep it in place were off by 1/16 of an inch. Not a lot but enough to keep it from going in to place. Once I ground a little off it went in fine. I am just writing this to let anyone who needs to replace one that this is a good option. 134.00 w/ free shipping.

You can also gain clearance if you park straddling a ditch. I suppose you could dig a hole too, but that's more work than I like to think about. 🙂

Not necessarily, like I said it depends on how much room you have to work with. On one side I can pull the leg out and up and remove it from the inside. The other side with the generator, not so much.

I will have to raise the front of mine more than normal but that is because of the generator being in the way. If I didn't have the generator in the way the leg would come up and out just like the other side, and no need to raise the trailer.

It depends on whether you have easy access to the legs. Mine is going to be a PIA because I have a generator on one side. But the whole job, if you have easy access, is pretty simple. Two bolts hold the old legs in, take the two bolts out, remove the legs, put in the new legs, replace the two bolts, wire up the motors, and install the control panel. Not a complicated job at all.

You do have to make sure the distances between the stop plates on the new legs is the same as the distance on the old legs.

Mine started acting up on my Fuzion toyhauler. I considered the options and decided that the Bulldog replacement legs would be a better option considering the weight of my toyhauler.

The OEM legs seem to be pretty wimpy, and the direct replacements don't seem to be a lot better, so I went heavy duty. They have a motor on each leg and come with a 5 year warranty. Not cheap, but this isn't something I want to have to mess with very darned often.

How difficult is it to do this upgrade ?

Scribe a mark on current location by pinch bolts and then check for movement after few uses.
Locking tabs help keep landing gear from slipping/shifting upward from weight of 5vr.
Is it time for your medication or mine?
