Lifetime Warranty

We were at the Iowa State Fair Sunday, visiting the RV displays. One of the dealers is offering a "Lifetime Warranty." This covers all major systems, all labor and parts, for as long as you own the unit.

But --- you must have a recognized dealer perform scheduled maintenance. Checking wheel bearings (I'm guessing that they should be repacked every year), checking furnace, checking the pressure in the water heater (?), and flushing the water heater, checking the roof for leaks, and several other factors. I didn't bother asking for the cost of the "Scheduled Maintenance."

One of the dealers selling a brand that's on my short list, is offering this. IF we go with them on a new FW, one of my first questions will be, "how much will you knock off the price if I decline the 'warranty forever'?" If it's not what it would cost me to buy the warranty at full price separately, then I'll find another dealer.

next time anyone is approached by someone with the warranty forever sales pitch ask them a simple question .... why is the first thing required in the yearly inspection a check of the roof and its caulking, when the roof isn't covered by the warranty ????

in short, their program is designed to make money via inflated yearly inspections

We were at an RV show couple years ago and saw a big sign saying that also. Sales guys really couldn't answer any questions, including his "sales manager" and no policy to even look at. Didn't have any info other than what he read in handout, that somebody gave him. So I did some work on "Lifetime warranty". I passed even after seeing their sale pitch. Unless it's changed in order to keep your policy in effect do have to do what they recommend and not only annual but whatever they come back with and at whatever price. No thanks. To open ended IMO.

Maybe it's changed in last couple years but I'm not going to giving anybody an "open checkbook" for what "they" recommend.

But maybe different now? Didn't even bother looking at video link this time after I checked out couple years ago.

We also thought their ads were to good to be true. Red flag to us.

Maybe someone can shed better light but until then I'll pass.

(edit part) OK I watched video again. Lot of "blue sky". But they sure make it sound good.

Why don't you e-mail them and

1) If such a great deal as they say, have them send you a copy of policy? (Bet they won't)

2) Scan it in and post it here. People would be able to shed more light on it after looking at policy (not advertisements)

you would be paying big$$$$$ for every one of those checks!! A wheel bearing repack could be hundreds of dollars! They darn sure are going to make there money one way or the other!!
