Lippert Hydraulic slide out breaker problem

The slide moves partially out then motor and slide stop moving. After waiting a few minutes and trying again it will move again and compleat the trip out. It sounds to me like a weak breaker. I’m just wondering about replacing the 50 amp auto resetting breaker with a larger one say 80 amp. The slide seems to be in alignment. The smaller bedroom slide moves fairly fast and the larger living area slide moves slower but steady. Any opinions about the safety factor of using a higher amp breaker?

Thank you so much for sharing this information and pdf bulletin links. I have a 2005 Cardinal for 13 yrs and have fought slide out power for the last several years.

The project would take about ten minutes. The breaker can be bought st any aut9 parts store.. if the current auto reset breaker in your rig quits resetting you will be forced to use manual over ride mode..

Hope you are prepared for that and have a cordless drill and bit.

Thanks to all. I think I will continue our two week trip this month and replace the breaker when we get back. Sounds like a project I can handle.

My Montana, I no longer have, had a thermal switch. It acted exactly as you described. I would have to wait for the thermal switch to reset and then continue. This Montana had 4 slides and the button had to be held for almost a minute to get them all out/in. The problem usually occurred when I opened and then closed the slides with little delay between changing directions.

Not always true. Our 2012 5'er slides on a Lippert frame started stopping within the 1st year of use. Wait 30 seconds and continue. When I researched it I found that Lippert had a service bulletin out stating that some trailers with slides had overloaded the starting amps of the auto-reset breaker. The recommended fix was replacing the factory 40 amp with a 50 amp auto breaker. I replaced ours and have not had a breaker trip in 6 years since.

I did the same thing as dmck413. The self resetting breaker in mine got so weak that eventually my batteries would not charge any longer. I also replaced the wiring to the hydraulic pump with a heavier gauge wire and a 90 amp resettable breaker and fixed my problem. Easy fix!

Lippert probably saved $0.05 by installing the smaller relay and they're almost certainly well into the red on it, covering warranty claims and having to research and put out the Tech Sheet on it. Shows how short-sighted they really are.

Breakers are sized to protect the wire. The only way to safely replace with a larger breaker is to replace the wire with the proper size for the new breaker.

I agree, sounds like the circuit breaker is weak/starting to fail. This does happen over time, and not uncommon. I would replace with a new/strong 50 amp. The amp breaker your system is designed for is the proper one. If you only had a 30 amp system, you would not use a 50 amp CB.

I put in heavier wire and installed a 90 amp breaker that solved the same problem.
