My Montana, I no longer have, had a thermal switch. It acted exactly as you described. I would have to wait for the thermal switch to reset and then continue. This Montana had 4 slides and the button had to be held for almost a minute to get them all out/in. The problem usually occurred when I opened and then closed the slides with little delay between changing directions.
