Loft Space

My DH and I have a TT now but are looking to upgrade to a toyhauler with a garage. One of the problems I'm running into with finding just the right toyhauler is that the vast majority have the loft space that cuts into the head room in the garage. We don't have kids, so 90% of the time it's just the two of us and our dogs. I'm trying to find one without the loft but I don't want that to be the deciding factor and severally limit the available trailers.

So I've got a series of questions that anyone willing to give advice on would be appreciated.

How easy is it to order a trailer I like without the loft? Am I going to end up paying a lot more for that, since most often trailers on the lot are listed with the constant $15k to $25k "sales price" am I going to have to pay that to get one without the loft option?

How easy is it to remove the loft after purchase? If I was to have someone take it out would that hurt the structural integrity of the trailer?

Do you have any creative ways to use the loft space as storage? I've thought about storing linens, extra blankets, etc. But I'm considered of things getting lost back in the corner. Or maybe opening up the side into the garage.

Here same price if you buy one off the lot or order it.........

But we use our loft for storage its great would not have a TH without one. We would miss it if we did not have a loft.

XLR will build any of their floorplans without a loft as a special order. Do your order through Jeff Couch's in OH, get 35 percent plus off MSRP, and get exactly what you want without any haggling.

You don't have to buy on the lot. Order what you want and shop dealers, you'll get the same or better price regardless. We never bought a unit on the lot, always got a great price. You just have to shop around and be prepared to travel if worth the difference.

Not sure what we would do without the loft for use as additional storage. While we love our Cyclone 4100 King, we find storage space sorely lacking. The grandkids slept up there once when we first got it, then decided the garage drop-down beds were much preferred.

Looking at ours, I cannot imaging even attempting to remove the loft area......

Removing a loft really isn't possible without destroying a lot of stuff in the rig.

Expand your search area.

There's a large selection of toy haulers at about 8 or so big RV dealers in the Spokane area.

I delivered a number of RVs to some of the dealers here, which is where I live, and I see their every changing selection daily, and they always have a huge assortment of toy haulers.

Don't be scared of ordering one you want....just make sure that you've agreed to the pricing before paying the deposit. So like 30 percent off the MSRP should still be good.

Most dealers will be happy to help you as they know it is already sold.

And many times the loft is part of the overall design of the entire trailer as many times it is the ceiling of the bathroom, closet, fridge, and some of the kitchen too.

If you are just talking about the beds that go up and down I know mine can be removed with 4 pins for each.

Our XLR Thunderbolt doesn't have the loft. I specifically did not want a loft as they appear to be a huge waste of space. Not enough head room up there, even kids end up disliking it. May be fun a first, but it gets old quick.

We went bumper pull, no garage wall, no loft. Pics somewhere else on the TH forum. Used Forest River Stealth AK2612. Very happy with it.

A friend of ours has an Forest River XLR Nitro 305VL5 that just has cabinets up there instead of the loft. However, I think they are discontinuing that model and replacing with one with a loft 😛 But, there may still be some out there. It fits the rest of your criteria... under 40' and he got it for under 60k.

Ah. I didn't understand the point about the discount on inventory. Thanks for clarifying.

Yes, you'll always have an advantage negotiating for a unit that is in stock.

Another option would be to find the floorplan you want and then call the manufacturer to help you locate a dealer with that model. I would be willing to travel if the price and floorplan were right.

As far as modifying the layout to remove the loft, that seems like a can of worms to me. I wouldn't do it. Don't give the manufacturer a reason to void your warranty.

Yes, there are floorplans without lofts and some that just have lofts as an option.

But in our area (Portland Oregon) most of the trailers on the lots have lofts. Hence why I asked if I was to custom order one would I lose that $15k to $25k "sales price" from the ones offered on the lot.

But on the other hand, if I look for one on the lot I might be limited to just 2 or 3 in stock out of the whole city and thus forced to choose on that criteria alone.

But since we're also looking for under 40' and ideally under $60k that really narrows our options.

What else are you looking for in a trailer? How long? What's your budget?

If you look hard enough, you can find floor plans without the loft.
