Magic Chef stove top overheated?

The stove top on the Magic Chef stove has the porcelean damaged around the center high output burner. The cause seems to be that the burner is recessed too low in the stove. I wanted to replace the top but hated to until the cause of the cracking and flaking was cured. Any ideas?
Thanks TomC
  • The problem is with the cover for the burners, the thing with 3 holes that sits over the burners. Wanted to find out some preventive measures before spending $150 for a new top. Thanks TomC
  • If you mean the wire grate, that thing gets red hot in use. Ours is a bit rusty but I just clean it off between uses. Maybe get it JetHot coated (high temp header coating). A stainless steel one would be nice too but I've never seen one.
