Mildew during 5th wheel storage

We plan to store our 5th wheel for 6 months in central Florida and 6 months near Pigeon Forge, TN. There will be no electricity and we have a Adco Tyvek cover.
Other blogs are mixed on leaving vents open to prevent mold & mildew. We live in Atlanta and now store it there without the cover and vents closed but had mildew until adding the bags of drip-rid and checking it monthly.
When I store it out of state I will be able to check every 3 months. Winter storage in Florida might not be a problem using drip-rid but summer storage in Pigeon Forge most likely will be since not being able to check for 3 months.
The question is do I leave the vents open with cover on and best dehumidifying to use?

Thanks
  • Covering is always a hot button issue. Most mfg's recommend no cover. I live in NE and have to store under trees so I cover. Have had no negative issues I do leave vents open under Max Air covers. Always cover a CLEAN rig if you decide to cover. I also use Damp Rid buckets and they do collect moisture.
  • Sounds like vents being open probably works best.

I would like to put the Adco cover on to protect the roof and paint. These covers will cut the ventilation some.
Anyone out there using a cover and vents open?

  • Leave them open for sure.

I also put a few buckets of damp rid in mine, wether or not it helps Idk but Ive never had mildew smell

  • We store our camper outdoors on gravel uncovered and with the vents open on the two vents we have the maxair vent covers on. Winters in Southern Ohio are typicaly dry from a humidity standpoint. We have not had any mildew issues
