More Battery Power!
First major mod of new 5er was to upgrade to two GC-2 batteries. Took some careful measurements and did some searching, could not find anything ready made that would fit the space and the larger cased batteries. Discovered the box they put the single G24 was two identical halves so decided to use them both as tops and make a new box/bottom.
Had my sheet metal shop make this from 16 gauge welded black iron sheet. Used flex seal to coat interior of box for protection from acid, they only had clear.
Here is is mocked up with the tops in place
Another angle of the box
The open box cut through the floor of the compartment, factory installation of one G24 was in this same location. Note the foam weatherstripping all around, should seal pretty well, stock it wasn't even attached!
All capped off, need a T and more tubing to tie in the vent
View from front showing box between spare tire and landing leg, almost touches tire, clears leg by 1/4" Factory disconnect remained in original location.
Here it is all vented and done. I ran the vent toward the rear to keep it as out of the way as possible. Should be OK as it slopes up all the way.
