We have owned our 2012 Jayco 34' 5er for about 1.5 years now and at best guess before this last trip the trailer had maybe 5000 miles on since new. June 6th we headed out for a 3.5 week trip throughout the rockies. Total trip was about 4800 miles. About half way through the trip we stayed one night at Singletree campground just outside of Torrey UT. While there I noticed the curb side front tire on our trailer was worn almost completely down only on the outside rib and only about 1/3 the way around the tire. I decided to change it rather than risk it, so I put the spare (never used) on. When we got to Cheyenne WY a couple of days later I went to Discount Tire and the very nice and helpful young man who helped me thought that perhaps the belt had separated and gave me a new tire as an adjustment at no charge. The problem was that my trailer has D rated tires and he only had an E in stock. He gave me the E rated tire to keep as a spare and told me to go to the local Discount Tire at home (America's Tire where we live) and they would be able to exchange it for a D at no charge. He was able to look me up in the companies computer and saw that I was a long time customer. Today the local America's Tire store ordered the correct rated tire and is taking care of the exchange for me, again at no cost.The tires in question are Goodyear Marathons and I intend on keeping them until they either time out, wear out, or I have a blow out. At that time I will make the decision between Maxxis STs or going to a LT tire. In any event, the purchase will be at America's Tire/Discount Tire.I have done business with America's Tire/Discount Tire for many years and this kind of service is why. No hassle no attitude, no problems just fair prices and excellent customer service. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.Steve

I've had good experiences with Discount Tire also. They swap my summer & winter tires for me for free, and when I brought in a punctured tire that I didn't buy from them, they patched and plugged it for me for free. They're smart - they know how to capture customer loyalty.

After the first 6-8 months of operation tire failures and down time on the side of the road had put my small company in the black. I was using so many ST tire under warranty Discount told me to get lost and they weren't replacing any more tires under warranty because I was a commercial operator. Hell they knew that when they set me up with their tires.Dropped by my area Goodyear truck tire dealer for a new set of tires for one of the DRW trucks and was talking trailer tires with the service mgr. He had sidewall cutaway sections of Goodyear tires. He showed me a Marathon cutaway vs a same capacity Wrangler HT. Nite and day difference. He made me a great deal on swapping my small fleet (all 5 trailers) to the Wranglers and another brand of LT he carried. That move cut my tire issue by 80 percent. That was some 30 years ago. IMO a good place to buy lawn mower tires.

Discount Tire in LasVegas treated me very well. I asked them to put their best guy on the job and that I did not want to see a mark on the Alcoa wheels on my Dually, the Manager actually did the job with no attitude! The price for 6 Michelin M/S 2 was 1,408 out the door $400 less than Costco.

I've never dealt with Discount Tire but from all I've read, they are a good outfit .... my question would be, why was the tire worn in that manner .... your camper is probably still under warranty but no matter if it is or not, I'd take it to my Jayco dealer and have it examined .... if there is an alignment problem, whatever new tire you put there will most likely experience the same issue

Hi Jim, How's your end of South Dakota doing? The Black Hills were great for us.

When we were in Cheyenne WY I called the local Jayco dealer and they said that tire issues are handled by the tire mfg. I went to the local Goodyear shop and they would have replaced the tire but didn't have one in stock. So then I found the local Discount tire store and they handled the problem. Prior to this trip I my local servicing Jayco dealer checked the axle alignment because I noticed some slight cupping, they reported back that the axles were fine. Also prior to the trip I had America's tire balance all 4 tires. The opinion of the tire shop was that a belt had likely separated causing the strange wear pattern. Both the Cheyenne WY and Stockton CA Discount Tire/Americas Tire stores said that cupping on trailers is normal especially on trailers that don't have shock absorbers on them.

One more thing, The spare I put on in Utah had about 2500 miles on it by the time we got home and there was no indication of abnormal wear by that time.

absolutely beautiful in eastern South Dakota, the type of weather that makes us very happy we aren't back home in NC

what they said about tires is true but the thing I would want to know is there an axle or hub issue that created the tire problem .... that most certainly is a warranty issue .... the good news is the 2500 miles with no visible issues .... I'd still want to know the why .... it might pay to get a tire tread gauge and keep a close eye on it .... might also pay to call your Jayco dealer and get them to put your axle/hub concerns on record ....
