Hi we are looking for someone to tow our 5'er from Parkville Md. to Hershey Pa. this Tuesday. Looked in local yellow pages with no results unless we want to pay a commercial hauler $ 1000.00. That's quite a bit of money for a 2 hr. drive Anyone have any suggestions? Just need to get it up there. Any ideas / help will be appreciated.

From the one time I checked with uship, rates for most FWs/TTs seem to run about $2/mile, give or take. I was asked by a neighbor with a limo company what I'd charge to haul one of his cars about 400 miles, round trip. I quoted that $2/mile number. Another time, he was selling one of his cars and I said $3/mile, with no backhaul. If anything happened, I was doing a favor for a friend for "gas money". :B

If you do wind up having someone tow it, make sure they have commercial insurance that covers you (or check with our insurance to see what is needed to keep you covered).

$1000 is a bit high but with short notice and short distance, your per mile is going to be higher than someone towing 1000 miles.

X2 - Lots of people don't realize it but taking money to haul something brings all kinds of rules and regulations into play. That is why it's so expensive to have done. Sure, you can give a friend of neighbor a couple hundred dollars to move something but he's very likely in violation of many laws in doing so.

This is good info to keep tucked in the back of your mind if you ever find yourself moving something or having something moved and you happen to encounter a LEO in some fashion.

My vote is for uship, if your repair shop doesn't work out.

Long story short, broke my truck, stranded couple hundred miles from home.

Posted an ad on uship, got a guy to trailer my truck home for $550., delivered right to my door.

Buddy of mine drove a couple hundred miles from the other direction, hooked on to the TT, and dragged it home for me. Got home last night.

If that didn't happen I was going to post an ad on uship for that too.

At one time I called a RV dealer and got the name of an individual who did their towing for them. He was reasonable, insured, licensed.

What are 'yellow pages?' ๐Ÿ˜‰

Visit a local RV park and check the bulletin board.

If I were closer I'd help you. I'm sure someone here will be able to give you a hand at a fair rate.
