New A/C and roof on three month old 5er

So we bought our Cougar in March and the a/c went out last week two days before I left El Paso. I get to MI, take it to the dealer and discovered the compressor lost all its oil. Addionally, the roof material behind the a/c was lose and lifting from the roof deck. They are going to replace the material while they do the a/c. Should there be any concerns in the future or are they able to replace the material just as if it came from the factory?
Thanks

Yes Kitsmiller. Any info on their service dept?

I don't want to jinx you, but they do NOT have a bad reputation. So they should do it right. They are one of the better service entities around Mid-Michigan.

I wonder if the compressor oil attacked the roof and/or adhesive.
  • I live just about an two hours north of the plants but I am in the Army and have to be in NC on the 7th of July. Not enough to go to plant. I was lucky the dealer in Lansing was able to take the service. The closest one was booking two weeks out. I think perhaps when the oil leaked out it seeped between the roof deck and rubber causing it to riple up.
  • If your Keystone was made in Elkhart, or near there, you are close enough, that you should investigate taking it too the plant to be repaired. We did that with our Coachmen, and got much better service and better craftsmanship than a dealer most likely would provide.

But that is Bob Jewell's shop at Coachmen. Can't speak for the repair shop at Keystone. I would also check at some Keystone forum and look for threads on repairs made directly at the plant shop.
  • It depends completely on the skill level of the tech doing the work.
  • I'm not sure why they would replace the material. I would think they would just apply adhesive to it.
At any rate I wouldn't worry about it too much. Our AC was replaced twice when new and we've never had an issue.
