December 12th and 62 degrees up here in New England...I'm loving this Global Warming!The wooden battery box I made was temporary. It started to delaminate after only a few months. I wanted to make one out of diamond plate aluminum to match the splash guard on the front of the trailer. But when I went to my metal supplier I found out that the aluminum I'd need was nearly $200!!A neighbor of mine stopped by for me to do some welding on his utility trailer. He mounted a diamond plate aluminum truck box in the tongue of the trailer. He says he bought it at a garage sale for $50. I told him if he ever sees another one like it for around that amount to buy it and I'd pay him back. A few days later he shows up at my house with a near perfect truck cross box he found at another garage sale. He wouldn't let me pay him. He said it was payment for all the welding I've done for him over the years. Thanks, but it started out looking like this:I cut it all up and TIG welded it into the size I needed.All I wanted out of the truck box was the aluminum.I even have enough left over to make some nice diamond plate mud flaps!

Ive seen two welded ring fingers now, that setup looks dangerous.

After watching two grown men electricute themselves because of aluminum diamomd plate i have to agree.

If you had to buy material and pay someone to build it for you, the lifetime guarantied Torklift box doesn't seem that costly. Not everyone can weld and even fewer can weld aluminum...

Make sure you put some foam or something non metallic in the lid so if batterys bounce they don't short out on the lid!! Just seen previous post about foam.

There is 3/4" rigid foam in the cover. No chance of a short. But thanks for asking.

Is that referring to what appears to be very minimal clearance from the lid to the tops of the battery posts?
