New kids to the block and we already broke things
We bought a used 1999 Skyline Nomad Sport Wagon about a month ago. The ramp door frame was about 3/4" out, but there were no signs of leaking. The guy we bought it from said it never leaked in the two years he had it, and it was out when he bought it.
I don't want to point fingers, but one of us may have decided to use the stablizing jacks to level the trailer when we brought it home before reading the manual that was inside the trailer. The other one of us may have heard loud popping and cracking and asked what the sounds were and been ignored.
Anyway... when we brought it home from our Labor Day camping trip, I was outside the trailer as my husband was adjusting it's location in the driveway. I watched the entire ramp door frame assembly shift a good 3-4" out to either side. Upon inspecting the trailer after confirming that I was not actually making things up to panic about, my husband found a sheared off bolt in the door frame. I found a spot in the front bed area where the bolt has cracked the interior paneling. The ramp door frame is not connected to the body framing on one side of the trailer. It is still not leaking! but obviously needs to be reattached.
We have insurance on the trailer, but doubt they'd pay for repairs that are necessary due to "our" negligence. So my husband wants to repair the trailer himself. Before this weekend, when he was supposed to be taking it out with his brothers and some friends.
Any thoughts about how to reattach the frames to each other?
