Hi everyone, we are first time buyers of a used toy hauler. We never had any type of RV and needed something to carry our RZR in. We bought a used 2007 Extreme Mega Lite 21KT. We really like it but there is a small leak in one of the water tanks under the trailer. I crawled under it to get a closer look. There are two black tanks and I don't know if they are plastic or what they are. The one near the back of the trailer is leaking. There is one hose going into the back tank and one hose and one pipe that has some insulation on it on the front tank. I am guessing they are both fresh water tanks but please bear with me because I have no idea what I am talking about. I don't know what the pipe is that is insulated either. Is it possible to take the rear tank out and patch it or should I buy a new tank? I don't know how to take it out but will look into it further. Also, if the back one leaks all the water out, will we still have water in the front tank to use or will the water from the front take get pulled into the rear tank and we will have no water? We are really looking forward to using the toy hauler this year.

They are most likely plastic, I have read about people fixing small holes in the water tank with different types of "bondo/glue/adhesive" If you can get to the hole without pulling down the tank, it will be easier to repair. Not sure on your trailer, but "generally" the tank in the back of the trailer is gray or black, not fresh.

Fresh water tank is usually white in color. The waste tanks ("grey water" is from the sinks and shower) and "black water" is from the toilet, are usually black in color.....and nowhere near the freshwater tank. (Different RVs,,,,who knows?)Anyway....look at the dumping valves. Should be 2 of them. The LARGE valve is for the blackwater...the smaller one, for the greywater.If possible...trace them back to the tank(s).You've got an awful lot to learn. Got an owners manual?

Is the leak a crack or a hole.If a small hole try using a boiler plug to fix it.....If a crack the stuff advertised on TV that cures with a light would possibly work I would cover the weld with a strip of eternabond or the like.

Try to get a good visual of where exactly tank is leaking from. Leak could be just a loose connection. If you do need a new tank after trying to patch or plug or whatever and going to do it yourself, this place have what you need. if its a black tank then its ABS and this is what you need:

ABS repair

All my tanks are ABS, fresh/grey/black. I fixed a major leak on my fresh water but it's back but not as big. Unfortunately my issue is getting to the bad part. This kit is excellent and if you follow the instructions properly it works very well. its a solvent welding process, similar to PVC glue. You could probably get by with regular ABS glue used for plumbing pipe if the hole is small and not under pressure (at the bottom of the tank). Mine is cracked at the seam where the side meets the top so is up between the frame rails. I need to drop the tank down partially to get it fixed properly, using a mirror and drop light just didn't get it good enough.

Thanks everyone. Here are two pictures of my water tanks. They are the same materiel as the black and grey tanks. These two pictures are taken from the back looking forward. The one closer in the picture has the leak. It is a cut in the bottom of the tank and it's about a inch long. The second picture shows a tube going into the back tank and some wires going into the front tank. Can anyone tell me what they are for? Do you think it is possible to take the big black pipe off the rear tank and cap it off so no water goes into it and just use the front tank until I can get the tank off and repair or replace it?

One of our fresh water tanks was leaking, i had it professionaly fixed cause the crack was at the threaded connection. Works fine now.
