I'm going to start replacing the brakes on the Everest tomorrow, I thought I had everything but got to thinking about the grease for the wheel bearings. I've got grease but I have no ideal how old it is years I know so I need to buy some before I start. So what kind do you all use No brand loyalty just a good grease for the job.

Thanks Jerry

Yes I bought the loaded backing plates as I was going from manual to self adjuster. I got the left hand side done today with some rerouting of the wiring. I did not like the way the wires were just laying on top of the springs.
I've stopped for today it was beer thirty. I'll get started sooner in the morning
and get the Everest out for a test run to check bearing temps and set the shoes to the drum.
Got to get ready to change addresses next month just for the winter.

I forgot how common these are for trailers !

My back thanked me as well ... didn't cost me a trip or 3 to the chiropractor afterwards, this time.

I have done a fair number of brake jobs in my life, although never electric brakes on a trailer.

โ€ข Jack the trailer up and PROPERLY support it. Remove tires and brake drums, but leave of side assemble for REFERENCE. There is usually a front and a rear shoe. Don't get the mixed up.
โ€ข Before disassembly, check to see it the the shoes are exactly the same as what you will be taking off. Better to know BEFORE complete disassembly.
โ€ข There are special tools to remove the hold down spring and retainer, but it can be done with a pair of pliers.
โ€ข There are other tools to help remove the return spring, but a GOOD pair of locking needle nose pliers sometime works better.
โ€ข A wire brush, spray brake cleaner and rags are required to clean the backing plate.
โ€ข There are usually 4 points where the shoes slide on the backing plate. These should be lubed with special high temp disc brake grease. You can get a small tube for a couple of bucks.
โ€ข Carefully inspect the wires going to the magnet. If they are chafed, get a new magnet,

Take your time and reference the opposite, still assembled side.

I'll get started tomorrow. Doing the complete change out for self adjusters from Southwest Wheel. I'm old and slow so it might take me a couple days because I know I'll find some other things that need attention.

As long as it's good quality and the right rating I'm good. Thanks for the fast reply.
