New tires for the 5er installed

We have a 2013 Montana Mountaineer 346lbq and had not one but two blowouts on the way back from Maryland back in June. They were Goodyear Marathons and Goodyear has sent us the check for the repairs plus extra to buy 2 new tires. After much research I decided on the Sailun S637 G rated tires. I did get the ST235-85r16 and the original tires were ST235-80r16. The new ones are .9" taller and I still have plenty of clearance between the tires and above the tires. The guys at the tire store even made comments about how much heavier and stiffer they were than the Marathons they took off. I'll be sure to post how they are doing after some trips next year as it is now going in for the repairs and probably parked for the winter after that. Here are a couple of pictures.

If you would to go on Sailuns website, you would know that they have not changed. They are STILL an all steel construction. What they have done is added the 235/80/16, but both the 80, and 85 are designated an ST tire instead of the LT as before

Simple Tire as far as I can see is not offering the 235/80/16 , YET

Just thinking out loud as I haven't researched it, but could the increase in load rating for the ST version be a result of reducing the speed rating to the standard ST 65 MPH? I went out and looked, mine have 129/125 L on the sidewall which would mean still rated at 75mph. They also say "for trailer service only". The manufacturer date is 3115.

Its hard to believe they are not the same tire. This changeover appears to be in the last six months or so from LT to ST . My friends Sailuns purchased in early june were the LT's ,and they were pretty fresh tires .

Ok, I'm sure this won't settle anything, but I'm going to share it anyway. Mine say ST, All Steel Radial, and the weight rating on the sidewall is 4080 lbs running as a single at 110 psi and was lower for duals. The only name on them is Sailun. It's dark out so I couldn't get a photo of them. The guys that mounted them couldn't believe how stiff they were and said it wasn't easy to get them on the rim.

x2, mine are the same. I also heard some grumbling at the tire shop about how hard they were to mount!

From what I have read, Sailun changed them from an LT to ST because of some new cost associated with importing LT tires that doesn't apply to ST.

I have had mine since April and towed several thousand miles without any issues at all. They are an extremely heavy duty tire and are wearing like steel. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

OP, you will love them; keep them pumped up and enjoy worry free travel!

Correct.

Having no idea ,but it seems they have changed the sidewall marking to ST instead of LT ,and upped the weight rating, and STILL an all steel construction.

I would be worried that one of them is no longer a steel carcass tire. Most likely the ST's. So there goes a replacement for the G614. Find out the weight of the ST ones. The LT one is 61 pounds. Chris

With a look at the Sailun product sheet, you would have found your answer on the steel construction

Product # 5541960 ST 235/80R-16

Product # 5540992 ST235/85R-16

Per the Sailun Product Sheet :" All steel construction specifically designed for trailer application only"

So there goes your guess on the replacement tire speculation for the G614. Facts are great .
ST Sailuns both sizes " ALL STEEL CONSTRUCTION "

OK the Sailun Part # 8244393 is the same size tire - @ $179.99 but has a lower weight rating - -126 ( 3748 #)

http://simpletire.com/sailun-235-85r16-8244393-tires

The 5540992 @ $130.99 has a 129 load rating - (4079 #)
Both are 14 PR and L (75MPH) speed rating
5540992 has a sidewall spec of TL and the other does not have sidewall rating listed
Anyone know what the sidewall spec means?
For me - I would pop for the $130 per tire.

That explains the two different listings and price. different tires, and weight rating with the ST being the higher rating, and cheaper price.

Could the ST be the the new tire in the 235/85R-16 from Sailun, and they are phasing out the LT, I find no listing for LT.

Friends S637 Sailun tires bought last spring from Simple Tire are a LT235/85-16 on the sidewall .
