North Carolina Hwy 501

Looking for anyone who has traveled NC Hwy 501 from I95 north into the Pittsboro NC area pulling a 5er. We are heading up in a few weeks from J'ville Florida and this appears to be a fairly straight shot.Any info is greatly appreciated.
  • I don't think you would hear any RDU planes from the campgrounds at Lake Jordon. Never heard of that RV park in Moncure...which BTW is in the middle of nowhere.
  • Thanks for the replies & comparisons,we will spend the night in Santee S.C. and then head to N.C. via 95 north. We plan on taking the Rowland exit to pick up 501 to Hwy 1 then exit onto 501 to go to Pittsboro. The Collie event is in Pittsboro.

This will be a short trip... 3 nights max stay in N.C. then head back home.Has anyone stayed at Goodwins RV Park in Moncure N.C. ? We checked out Jordan Lake SP but we definitely want/need 50 amp service so we can run both ac units and want peace and quiet... no airport noise.
  • Everyone is free to do what they want but I had just as soon have a root canal as drive thru Fayetteville on Highway 87. But dont get of 95 at 501 go to the next exit take a left to Rowland and you miss some small roads and the only town you go thru is Rowland, you go around Laurinburg where the speed limit is 60
  • Would he better to catch NC-87 to Pittsboro from around Fayetteville, other than driving through Fayetteville and Sanford (bypass around Sanford is open now too).

US501 from I-95 is also pretty hilly too until you get to Aberdeen/Pinehurst area. Kinda up and down and on a two lane rd.
PLus jumping off at I-95 onto US501 will put you through lots of smaller SC and NC towns.IE Speed trap towns.

  • I live near it and have traveled that route many times, it is a good road but you will have some delays in Aberdeen=Southern Pines area. I would suggest you follow Us 1 from Aberdeen to Sanford as it is 4 lanes and 65-70 MPH. You will exit back onto 501 just north of Sanford, it is also a shorter route.
