odd water pressure

Ok, guys - I am totally stumped!

Our water pressure is wacky (on city water). When we run the cold, we get ver low pressure, when we run hot, we get almost twice the pressure. I've cleaned the diffuser thingy at the end of the faucet at the sink, but have no idea why there could be such a difference. Shouldn't the pressure be the same regardless of cold/hot feed?

Pressure seems to be the same confusing situation at all water outlets.....maybe one of the feed lines is full of gunk, lime, etc.?

So confused.

Thanks so much!

    Any loose screws anywhere?

in my head for sure, but where else should I look?
  • We have a factory installed filter on the cold supply under he sink. Had to replace the cartridge last Spring.

Could Carriage have put some kind of filter on the cold supply somewhere?
  • Weird stuff happens when there is an outside shower where the shower head is OFF and both HOT and COLD taps OPEN.
  • I would say that as water gets hot in the tank it creates pressure and maybe that's why you may have more pressure on the hot side.
  • Do you have same low pressure issue on cold when using on-board pump?

Is toilet affected by this low pressure/flow issue also????

City water feeds main cold water line off of which sinks/showers/toilet & water heater 'T' for cold-side supply. (pump discharge ties into this main line)

Cold goes in bottom of water heater and then out top to feed main hot water line off of which sinks/showers 'T' for hot-side supply.

Cold water low pressure/flow issues should affect hot water pressure/flow also.

Might need to disconnect cold line to sink.....place in bucket and then turn water supply on. Check pressure/flow into bucket. Good flow-----then faucet could be plugging on cold-side port.
    Try at each faucet/shower.

Has to be something got into main line and clogged up cold side faucets.

Plugged system filter would affect hot/cold
City water inlet problem would affect hot/cold

check for open valve somewhere, valve to tank fill?

That would account for low water pressure.........but would affect hot just as much as cold.

Low cold pressure and hot OK just doesn't make logical sense.

Hope OP finds the cause and posts
