My thoughts and prayers are with you folks in the Northwest. While the terrain and woodlands of Florida are nothing like the forests in your part of the country, I vividly remember the absolute terror and hell visited upon our state when it "burned" in 1998. I was a firefighter and never saw anything like it. We even had assistance from western hotshot crews and tanker aircraft. Something I had never seen down here..........and hope to never see again.

We are headed to the Steens Mtn area on Sept 6th, where agoutsmare you headed. Also, there isn't much field burning done anymore.

Herein The Dalles, on Hwy 84 about 80 miles east of Portland. We have a nasty fire about 8 miles south of the river. At about 8 square miles and growing....But other than smoke when the wind is right, it's not too bad. Hope they get it under control in a few days..

I am going to Yellowstone in 3 wk. I have been watching the fires there. By the time I am ready to leave I am sure there will be new ones.

Just Google forest fires in Oregon and it will bring up the website.

There have already been a few data points/links already provided. You should be fine almost anywhere you want to go, but, it's good to follow the news the closer the trip you get as fires can change at anytime (as we all sadly know).
