Possible Bad Thermostat

Took our '13 Heartland Prowler 31 RET out for the first time this year. Since it was still cool, I set the thermostat to furnace and it came on. The problem is, so did the roof AC. I tripped the AC circuit breaker and the furnace worked fine. Could this be a bad thermostat. It is a Dometic, but I don't know the model#.
  • Okay, took the Prowler out this past week, put the fan on AUTO, and the furnace worked as advertised. Thanks all for your help!

They can be a pain! I have learned, the first thing to do is set the correct time, since you have two programs based on time. If the time is not set correctly, the system struggles to do what is right. Also, as stated set for "auto", and let it do its thing it will eventually get it right!

If you have the newer Dometic digital thermostat, (2013 Heartland) Use the Mode button to go to the fan setting on your thermostat. Then push the Minus button to toggle the fan speed to Auto. You currently have the fan setting in either High or Low. This is a new and improved feature that allows the AC fan to run and circulate air when the furnace is operating.

Jetcare, I think you nailed it. I checked the t-stat and the fan was on high. I switched it to Auto and now will have to wait until next trip to check it. I don't why I asked so soon, knowing it will 3-4 weeks until my next trip.

No need to wonder, if you were not on auto before, there is nothing wrong. Myself, and many others, have BTDT. It is a great system. My new FW did not come with a thermostat manual, but Dometic has it online to download.
