ppl consingment houston tx

I am looking at a alpenlite 1997 31'rl agusta 2 slides at ppl in houston. I have just looked at it on their web site and may go
down to houston to look at it. Has anyone here had any dealings with
ppl? A 1997 model rig is 16yrs old and there are a lot of issues to
consider. Any comments,Byron
  • We bought our 5er from them a couple months ago. Large selection, easy to deal with, sales guy was kinda goofy (new?), but ok. Parts people are helpful but busy. Make-ready guy went over trailer really well when we picked it up. Spent about an hour and a half with us.

My only complaint was they dont really do anything to clean them or detail them. They sell them pretty much the way the owner brings them to the consignment lot.

Also, I paid for the full inspection service. They told me everything was good to go, even said that the tires looked good. All but one were Goodyear Marathons with a 2008 build date. Not knowning any better (RV newbie) I didn't give it much thought. Checked air pressure and hit the road. Had a blowout within 100 miles. Put the spare on, continued trip, made it home ok only to see that another one of the tires had began to deform and was only minutes away from blowing up. Had to replace them all. If I had known they needed to be replaced immediately I would have negotiated the price down some.

Other than that our experience with PPL has been good. Decent parts and accessory selection in stock too.
  • I know the PPL when it was a very small consignment in Houston. Now the place is is huge and that not for nothing they got to do something right.Check them out.
  • Good place, easy to deal with...I have sold a 5th wheel through tem and still use them for parts and accessories.
  • We purchased our current MH in 2012 through PPL Houston and were very happy with the sales staff and inventory. FYI PPL has a second location in New Braunfels, TX.
  • We sold our 5ver through them...generally good to work with. We had them list the price at a few $$ higher than they wanted, but in the end it worked out OK just took a couple weeks longer to sell.

Efficient and well run operation. They don't take too much of a bite from the seller/consignee.

I'd be leery of a 16 year old unit if it has been sitting in the Texas sun that entire time. Shoot, I'd be leery of a 16 year old unit in any case, but (particularly with the good reputation Alpenlite's have) I'd mostly be concerned about the shape of the roof, penetrations, sealant, etc.
