Reflection vs Solitude

We are looking at the Grand Design Reflection and Soltude fifth wheels. The Reflection is the 337rls and the Solitude is the 320X.
There is some $15k difference in the MSRP for the two. The Solitude being the greater of course. The Solitude is 1'4" shorter in length and 7" higher ( 2nd a/c ) but 1,000 lbs heaver. Looking at all of the information I can dig up on line and just an hour looking at the units on a lot, I can't see much difference between the two. Certainly not $15,000 worth.
The literature on line is not a lot of help. They seem to say the same thing about the construction, but with different terms.
I would love to hear from someone who has been to the factory and saw how they are built. For 1,000 lbs and $15,000 there must be something different in the components.
The Solitude definitely looks like the higher end unit, but I would like to know how come.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I think they are are making some great floor plans and keeping lengths down-that would be a plus for me if I were shopping. 320X looks good and the mid profiles have great floor plans in a reasonable length for state parks. Impressive.

Yes the weight of the Solutide is a concern of mine. Have to take that into account for the comparison.
Iam already having the storeage building redone to get a higher door opening. Our current 5er just makes it through the 12' door. It's hard to find a new 5er that will go through a 12' door opening.
If I have to get more truck capacity I would be looking at adding on to the house garage for the length of the truck. Don't want to go there.

Only an observation but the Solitude model you selected has a dry pin weight of 2480lbs. Add in propane, batteries and your stuff you will probably be over 2700lbs. Getting a little high pin weight for a diesel 3/4 ton. Add in all your cargo, hitch and occupants of your truck, will you exceed your GVWR? Not that that is necessarily a big no no, just that one should always know his weights.

After researching for almost six months we closed on the 320X. We love our solitude, we have had it for Almost three months no problems, and we just love it! The floor plan is what sold us, and I am always telling people that you must start with the floor plan and then go from there! Good luck Grand Design IMHO is a great company!

The Solitude 320X has self leveling, but it is a 4-way electric version.

It is 101" wide versus 96".

It is a full profile 5w, versus the Reflection mid-pro.

Larger capacity tanks, larger appliances, and more "home like" features.

I see in the literature that the Solitude is 101", the Reflection literature doesn't say how wide, so one would have to assume it's 96". So between that and height difference, I can now see the weight difference. Although the 7 " height difference might just be the bedroom a/c on the 320x, not sure at this point.
Is the Reflection a drop frame also ?

No, the Reflection is not a drop frame. It has electric stabilizers and front landing gear and no leveling, while the Solitude (not sure on the 320x) has hydraulic 6 point leveling.

That being said, we LOVE our 337rls.

As Justaguy says, the Solitude is wider. It also has different furniture. I believe the Solitude is a high profile and the Reflection is a mid profile. As knshook says, check over on the owners forum. The Solitude fridge and pantry are bigger. The island and kitchen hutch differ. The showers differ (we like the curved shower).

We love our Reflection.

We have a 337 and really like it. It has been a great unit and have had a great experience with GD. But dang! I wish we would've waited and got the 320x. It's the wide body the makes all the difference.

I doubt you could go wrong with either unit. I've had my Solitude 369RL for over a year and a half and totally love it..

My buddy is considering the Grand Design for full timing. We spent quite a bit of time at the Pomona RV Show talking with Marc Hauser, General Manager. We are convinced that the 320X is better for full timing. The microwave is bigger, refrigerator is bigger, pretty much the things you need to live full time are just better in the 320X and it is not too large for state and national parks. Very good compromise rig. If you could set up the reflections like the 320X it would cost more then this costs already...

I suspect the difference in cost between the units mentioned will be less than $15k. 7" of roof over the entire length and width of a coach= a bunch of weight. The X Series is not dramatically different than the Reflection line, the X can be ordered with more options. Base MSRP of the units your interested in is about $8K more for that Solitude, add options who knows what the difference might end up being. Your in a good position shopping Grand Design, they are a great company and build a very nice product.

We own a Reflection and my suggestion is you connect with owners on the Grand Design forum. There are a lot of very helpful people-many Solititude owners, many Reflection owners. You will get a lot of good feedback and info. Good luck with your new Grand Design- whatever your choice. We are very pleased with our Reflection and are especially impressed with their customer service!

If I were in your position Id email grand design directly. I can guess the frame is heavier for full time use but that is all it is = a guess. Probably other things as well like dual panes, levellers and bigger wheels and tires.
