Replace Gas Struts

I have a 2012 Cedar Creek 36B4 with an outside kitchen. My problem is the hatch for the kitchen doesn't open far enough. I'm a seasonal camper and my site is kind of sloped so the hatch doesn't open high enough for me to get under without stooping. Someone suggested I replace the struts with longer ones to push the door up higher. Does anyone know how to go about this?

The basement door on my camper didn't open enough and I think it is because the models with a bedroom vanity slide out would be in the way of the door opening any higher. I don't have the slide out so I simply undid the screws on the bottom of the struts and moved them up six inches or so and secured them in that position. They work fine and I have a lot more head room and it didn't cost anything but time.

If you change size make sure you measure the position distance accurately. You may have to relocate the mounting points.
