Running wrong tire psi

Good to hear zacky, glad the tires held up!

If all goes well going home, tires still look good, I think you may have dodged the bullet. You may not need to be in a hurry to change them out.

Technically you were operating your tires in what is referred to as a "run flat" condition. The standard to determine a tire in a "run flat" condition is any tire being operated 20% below the vehicle manufacturer's recommended inflation pressures for Original Equipment tires or like sized replacements.

To the OP, your lower pressure issue should not be of any concern. I'd be more worried about the chance of a termite climbing into the back of my truck and chewing up the wooden leveling blocks I carry (ie...not worried). I intentionally run the air pressure in the front tires of my diesel pickup at 65 PSI, though they're rated for 80 PSI. LOTS of people do this because it helps with ride, control, and stability on the HD trucks. On my equipment trailers, I run MAX pressure because, well, they're loaded down. 500 miles spread over 3-4 trips at 50 PSI...pa-lease...

Now, all that being said, I would agree that you DO have a problem if your trailer is loaded to max (or beyond) or if you're running super cheap China bombs (not all made in China tires are bad) or you should be running load range E instead of load range D (which is what you have). When I got new tires on my 5'er, I skipped straight to load Range E so I don't have to worry about all this stuff.

What brand of tires are on your trailer now? If they are TowMax (or any of the other names they stick on this junk tire) you need to change them no matter what.

That's a light FW, so if you run light, you're probably OK, but keep a very close eye on them. =Anything= questionable, get new tires. How =fast= were you going? Frankly, speed is just as deadly to ST's as underinflation.

IMO, your tires are likely OK, especially with only 500 miles on them, IF you were running fairly light. I'd run 'em for a while, but watch 'em like a hawk. If you're really paranoid, get the Maxxis and sell the OEM tires to offset things a bit.

Weighing a new TT or fiver after it is loaded up with your "stuff" is pretty important.

You may find out that those tires it came with are underrated no matter how much air you put in them!

What size tire and what axle rating?

LT's are always a better choice than a ST.
