When I had mine installed I thought 6' longer than the trailer would be good. Bought a longer camper so facing N/S the back was exposed to the weather if I protected the front or vise versa, I added another 10 foot. Now the ends are completely protected from sun or rain.
Charlie: Who did you use for the carport? I'm just down the road from you in Liberty. I can't decide if I want the cover here, on the farm in Mauriceville, or my sons property in Devers. Probably Devers.
Would you use that contractor again?
Hello neighbor. I little in Little Cypress which is the same school district as Mauriceville.
The original was installed by Superior out of Victoria. The extension material was purchased from American Steel out of Joshua, Texas. Neither will sell turn key or materials direct to customers. Superior representative is Fredicks of Vidor. South of I-10 in Vidor. 10% down to order and payment due after installation to Superior. Superior was 2-3 weeks after order. Showed up on time and installed a 24x36 in about 6 hours for $3200. in Jan. 2012. I wanted to add 10' to length and neither would add on because they would not want to guarantee against leaks. Both use identical materials and both will sell materials for extension through a local dealer but I don't know if they will sell an entire structure if you want to install. All purchases must go through their reps. Superior wanted $1329.00 for 10 foot extension which would be 11' material. American Steel has a dealer on the north side of I-10 called Finishing Touches Auto Detail. They wanted $919. for the extension in June 2017. Prices for material is delivered.I also added 6' drop downs to better protect the sides. Better to go oversize than have to deal with extensions or living with what you have if you later need longer. You can see that just the 10 foot long extension-actually 11' because of the 1 foot overhang on the ends-was 40% of the original order for a 36' cover.
American Steel missed 3 scheduled delivery dates and when they dropped off the material they delivered 4 pieces that were 1 foot too short. Of course the material that was too short was placed on the ground under the correct lengths. Had friends help me assemble and install. When I went to get the last 4 sheets I found the short ones and then I have problems getting answers on how they were going to give me money back on the short pieces. Failed to return calls and when I did get to speak to someone they promised to send a check. After a couple of months of that nonsense I then sent a letter to the BBB and that got my refund in a week. If I knew then what I know now I would have bought the material from Superior.
Don't know about American Steel's quality of installation and it is possible they would deliver and install on time. Both will call you 1 week prior to delivery and installation to confirm that you are ready. You must provide access to work site and foundation must be flat and relatively level. Can install on any surface but I have concrete. They will drill and anchor to concrete or install augers in dirt. Customers must anchor to asphalt, rock or wood. Depending on what you want determines pricing. I wanted maximum number of angled bracing on all sections between verticals and rafters. That increases wind rating. Augers is additional. They have a cut sheet spelling out each item. I also wanted 6 foot drop downs on the side so that was extra.
When either show up to make an install they are loaded up for 3-4-5 jobs and stay on the road for several days during the install and also have those same jobs in an area so do don't have to run different distances. Getting a number of jobs in one area also dictates how long the installation time frame is.
All of these companies use the same materials. Their material is also NOT available should you need any extra material from anyone else but them. I tried to get the material that they cut too short and neither Mueller, Metal Mart or a number of local companies had the metal panels. Both the tube material and panels are of such design that only the installers have access.
Can furnish phone #'s if you need them. I see local companies with cover displays throughout the country when I travel and they are exactly the same. Comes down to pricing and promises kept. If you have one of these local dealers go see them. They are just middlemen. They have brochures. Once you order and put the 10%-which I believe is their cut-they are no longer in the picture. You deal directly with the installer. Let me know if you need anything else.
One more thing. My leg heights are 12'. Then you add the radius heights and the pitch for the gable. That determines the center height. I have my camper off to one side with just enough room to open the slides and still park my truck along side the camper. This thing is HUGE. If I had it to do again I would have built something wide enough to open both slides only and added a lean too or such or a smaller cover to park the truck under. I don't need that 46' long cover for the truck. Even with the camper parked to the side I can walk crouched over on the camper roof.
