A few years ago when I first started asking people to research the manufacturing plants certifications I was just about drummed out of the threads by the nay sayers.
Those that are actually familiar with large manufacturing processes know just how important certifications really are when it comes time to market their products. I’m glad to see there is more interest in just who is making our tires from over there and what kind of management and quality assurance guidelines are actually in place at those huge manufacturing facilities.

I've been working with these certifications for over 21 years...I'm VERY familiar with them..and work in a very large manufacturing plant that NEEDS to meet these criteria each year or we would lose customers WORLD wide...Don't recollect you talking much about these or I would have noticed it much earlier...don't see those certifications with most ST tires made...it's a very rare bird to say the least. IF you had hit that topic and I overlooked it, I apologize, but most tires you push on these forums DO NOT have these certifications to vouch for their quality and manufacturing processes.
MOST all Chinese made tire manufacturers DO NOT have these accreditations..they don't care much about quality ....or records to prove out training, quality and manufacturing processes...It's there for the research.
.I've been through these "audits" annually for the last 21 years....and they're are not easy to achieve...EVERY department in a manufacturing plant is audited for every process involved in running a manufacturing plant, be it HR, finance, R&D, records of training, Watching the operators run processes to make sure they are following Work or operating instructions as they do their job....operators can be asked specific questions about their job, and it's best they know the correct answer....Shipping, receiving, the vendors one uses...It's all about records, records and more records and PROOF of ALL quality and manufacturing processes...I've been on the teams that prepares the plant for these audits. AND, as stated...IF you get a "finding", it can be a "minor' or a "major"...then you have "X" amount of time to "fix it"....if you don't or can't...your toast...
I know about the Sailun, the GY G614 and several others that will work on "MY 5er"..I know the processes and will accept process certification to help me make up my mind on what tire I will purchase because I KNOW what goes into the manufacturing process to get the certifications and what it takes to achieve it and MAINTAIN it over the years.
IF I can "save a buck" next time I purchase a tire, and Sailun has proven out by owner satisfaction, AND they STILL hold certifications proving out their manufacturing and quality processes...cheap price or not I WILL consider and possibly purchase them to put on my 5er because I would feel fine doing so. Prices are competitive, and in this instance, knowing what I know about the manufacturing processes of the Sailun tire will make it a viable choice for me.
I wouldn't purchase 5 17.5" rims and tires if not needed. Quite expensive in my view, but I know that the GY G614 will work on my 5er as well as the Sailun and a few more Chris has mentioned...all will be looked at when I purchase tires next for my 5er.
