Should I purchase an RV warranty?

So we singed our paperwork last night and do the final walk through today.
It was asked by camping world if I wanted to purchase the 7 year extended warranty by Good Sam for $1800.00

I am asking as a general question is this a good move?

House keeping;
We plan on keeping the trailer for about 8-10 years, if we decide to sell before the 7 year term is up then we are refunded the difference ($22/month)
This is our first 5th wheel
Jayco offers a 2 year bumper to bumper warranty
10 year floor
5 year roof???

Deductibles:
100 if not at comparing world
50 if at a camping world location

Thoughts please

You buy a extended service plan for the same reason we purchase any insurance policy auto, truck, home, health, etc. We purchase them then hope we will never use them but they are there if needed.

Do the homework there are good plans to be had.

We had a problem in our 3rd season with the controller for the slides, landing gear etc that was going to be about $900 for the dealer to replace. It fixed itself but we decided to get a 4 year extended warranty from the dealer with Easy Care. While on a cross country trip, we had a wheel bearing fail that took out the drum and axle spline. We are stuck in Idaho waiting for the new axle, but EasyCare has agreed to foot the bill. I won't know how we come out until it is all over, but glad we have it.

I just purchased 5er in my sig and purchased a 7yr extended warranty on it with $100 deductible....I felt it was a great deal and glad that I purchased it.

ON EDIT; Info on Jayco's warranty taken from their website.

The Jayco 2-Year Warranty is a manufacturer's limited warranty. It doesn't come from your dealer and it's not an extended warranty. It comes from the people who build Jayco recreation vehicles to the people who buy them. Each Jayco is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship to the original purchaser for twenty-four (24) months or twenty-four thousand (24,000) miles (mileage limitation applies to motorized products only), whichever occurs first, from the original date of purchase.

Jayco offers to the original purchaser additional industry-leading lifetime parts and labor coverage on our camping trailer lifter system, roof, floor, and frame. We also offer for camping trailers and expandable travel trailers five-year (5) coverage on our tent with parts, labor, and freight covered the first two years; parts, factory labor, and return freight during years three, four, and five.

We've been giving some thoughts to the Good Sam product, was given a high figure of one,(not Good Sam) when we purchased at the dealer and turned it down. The best thing for piece of mind in our consideration is if we have a problem while on the road Good Sam does have a handle on shops to go to and at least we aren't out shooting in the dark.

As you get near the end of your factory warranty, you'll start getting offers to buy an extended warranty. If you have any qualms about the quality of your rig, buy something =then=, using the funds that you saved the first 2 years.

Well I turned the EXT WAR down they would not budge the 1800
Then we commenced with the headache . It was a FIASCO OF A BUY.
Wrong hitch ordered and installed
Wrong financed amount
Coach with a number of broken items
Salesman was the rudest person who I ever dealt with. Arguing with me over the hitch in front of others and the GM.

End result

Semi correct hitch installed still a great option (B&W slider)
Items fixed
Financed amount corrected
$500 gift card for the troubles.
New Jayco in my drive
GM taking care of another detail and full touch up on paint when we winterize.

GM was solid. Salesman was not.

I'll post pictures when I'm on the computer. On the phone now lol

$1800 is high, these are highly negotiable. On our first fiver we did purchase the extended warranty, they quoted $1700 and we settled on $1100. After 18 months I got smart and canceled the warranty, put the money in the bank and now self insure.

A business would not offer a product if they did not believe they would make money on it.
Vegas has gambling and they know that over time they will make money. That does not mean all casinos make money or everyone who gambles loses money. Most RV's are NOT quality made. The chances of you having a claim are good; if your claims exceed the monthly premiums you win. One important question to ask is how good are you at mechanical repairs now and 5 years from now? You will have $1,845 for parts. I have been to Vegas many times and I have lost thousands of dollars over the years. Do you win in Vegas?

So of the number of responses it seems that there is 1 maybe and 1 absolutely. Though I am not excited about the possibility of this happening I inderstand it can and it will be time to pony up. The first 2 years as outlined by a phone call with a Jayco rep stated if anything happens and any consequential results of the event will be covered for 2 years.

7 years of a $22 monthly payment plus interest on the loan; I'd still put that money in the bank in case of repairs. Your damage isn't 110% chance of happening to others in my opinion. In fact, I haven't heard of many significant costly repairs to trailers (motorhomes, yes) after the factory warranty period. Many buyers sell and upgrade about that time.

Thanks everyone. That was my gut instinct of not buying it.

I think you made a good decision. Ask the dealer for a copy of the extended warranty contract.
Then, let us know what they say. ๐Ÿ™‚

Enjoy your travels.
We'll be waiting for the pics.

Why do we think we should get our money back on a Insurance policy.???You get a extended service contract for the same reason you buy any insurance.

Read the contract there are good ones out there.
