Skylight replacement

Does anyone have any knowledge of the lifespan of bathroom skylights.

Mine is 5 years old and looking ratty, but still no cracks.

I am in the middle of an eternabond and caulking project and don't want to have to cut out the eternabond next year!

Thanks!!

Exactly what I did to my new 5er. Painted it Gloss White Krylon. On my TT toyhauler, it cracked after 5 years. I had to replace it. Not a bad undertaking. Takes about an hour. Videos on YouTube to help. I will replace all of my skylights between 5-6 years due to how brittle the plastic gets.

  • Ours is over our shower, never liked it, never had an issue with it, but just didn't like it. I had a roll of eterna-bond and covered the entire outside of it...Doesn't leak, don't have bright unwanted light coming into the shower as well as light coming into part of the bedroom..

As others have stated, if you want to re-seal or clean it up, there are materials you can purchase just for those jobs.
  • If your referring to the skylight over the tub, I can say mine is 18 years old and still in place. I think most problems with them are when they get struck by a limb. Those seem to be made of much heavier material than the plastic caps on the skylights that open.
  • Talk to a dealer, if yours is like my 87 mh, there is just a rod to be removed at the hinge and a new lid can be installed.
