stolen bikes

well a while back I wrote about house being broken into while on vacation.
we have been home about a week and the 5er is parked along side our house. we cleaned it all up, and wife wanted to take a short trip after next chemotherapy so I left the bikes on the back.
they were cable locked on and had U-bolts through pedal to plywood they were riding on along with a full 2 bike cover that was tied around them .

they cut the cable, brought wrenches to take off bolts, wire cutter to cut rope, and then burned the cable holding on the cover.

they got 2 bikes. we had just purchased a new bike for my wife, she called it her Cancer treatment bike. GONE

cannot wait to get out of Stockton
  • As prepared as the thieves were, could be a good thing you didn't catch them in the act. You may not have lived to post about it.

All the animals don't live in the woods!
  • Stockton is currently known for the crime rate. Bikes have always been a easy to trade commodity. Usually it is the homeless who take the bike because it is there (JMHO not substantiated) but obviously in your case these people really wanted your new bikes. My father used to advise me that locks, safes, alarms all were to discourage honest people...at least it made them think twice and stay honest. When someone wants something bad enough they will figure a way around the security. My neighbor was burgled years ago, in a rain storm, when someone broke into their house and carried out a 300lb safe through the mud and over a 6 foot wall (you could follow the footprints deep in the mud). These people could have easily gotten jobs in the moving business.
Anyway, our best to you and your wife. Our prayers for recovery.
  • I share you pain - lost a bike in central California, the only crime I ever encountered while camping. The lousy roads (15 years ago) combined with the theft was enough to discourage me from camping there anymore.
  • So sorry this happened. So much for "...steal anything that isn't bolted down."

Good for you. Good luck in the future. Prayers sent.

My brother left CA to move back to NY. Had enough after 20+ years

  • How horrible for you. Sorry for the theft. It's like being violated. We had enough theft in the big city (Las Vegas) and have been so happy living in a small town. Good luck "escaping" Stockton.
  • Sounds like they came 'prepared'.....not your typical opportunity theft

so somebody in neighborhood that had time/opportunity to case the set up and what was needed to steal the bikes

    Sorry for your misfortunes......

I don't even like driving thru Stockton!

Hope there is a special place in hell for thieves.
