Storing Honda 2000

What do you think about storing a Honda 2000 in the storage compartment while traveling?

I fill will fresh non ethanol gas with 1 oz per gallon after running the old gas out and refill each year before leaving for the winter in Oct. Always starts up to do the same each year. Never use it but it needs to run if needed.

Have carried ours in the front compartment for four years with no gas smell getting into the FW. Only slightly inconvenient when taking them out or putting back in when an older person like me has a problem lifting them high enough to get them out or back in. And don't try to put them back in the compartment while still hot, don't ask me how I know this.

I like the idea of a separate fuel shutoff. Would Me Again post how he installed his.

I field stripped it down into a zillon pieces, remove the wires from the existing switch and installed a little rocker switch next to the OEM switch. So the OEM is now the fuel valve and the rocker is the run/stop switch.

Switch is black with a red round rocker. It is up at our RV lot so I can not post a picture. Maybe tomorrow we will go there for the night and I can take a picture. Chris

We have always carried ours in the front compartment. When I know I am not going to use it for awhile I dump the fuel out and run it till it quits. I'll leave it empty but carry a container of fuel in case I need it.

We have carried our Honda 1000 for many years in the basement. No issues. Chevman

Yes, running the carb out of gas definitely helps keep the carb clear and operational for the next time the generator is used, if it will sit unused for long periods of time.

Another way to go is to drain the carb bowl via the drain plug in bottom of bowl, if the carb has one. My Honda 5hp air compressor engine's carb has the drain plug and is easily accessible.

I have stored mine in the front compartment now for 4 years and no problem.I also make sure there is Stabil in the gas tank so fuel won't get bad.

Same here. My 2000 is always in the front compartment, full of gas and ready to go.

My pair of Honda 2000s have been in the fifth wheel storage compartment since I got them in 2008. I do not detect any gasoline odor from that area.

Long as the gas is turned off and the tank cap seals, I don't see why not. Wouldn't hurt to put a vent in the compartment though, just for GP's.
